Re: GT Serial Number Info

Hi, New member here. Great site. I've had my GT since the early 80's I just pulled it out of storage and started cleaning it up. It sure brought back so many great memories from my childhood. I have a question about the serial number I found on it, 1221036 Does it make it a Jan 82 bike? Here are a few pictures of the bike. I removed the tires and tubes from the wheels. I ordered a set of black Skyway wheels along with a few other items.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Hello, welcome to the site.   I think that makes it December '82, but everything around somewhere in '82 and before is slightly challenging to interpret IMO.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Gave your pictures a little help.

Your SN is definitely in that early range, I'd be confident it's an '82.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

I know nothing about bikes but came across this GT frame. Any ideas on year and model? Not sure how to post pictures but it has 3 sets of numbers underneath the sprocket tube

1.  HAMNG22695 (GOING UP AND DOWN)

2.  FE-GP413 (GOING UP AND DOWN)

3. BI-1318 (SIDE TO SIDE)

ALL 3 SETS FIRM THE LETTER H, THAT'S HOW THEY ARE POSITIONED UNDERNEATH THE SPROCKET TUBE

So I googled some of the numbers you posted and someone else also asked years ago....

The serial would make it a 1985. Need to see a picture to determine the model.
