As purchased - I love the idea of built on standing pegs on a lil 16" pit bike ...

A) azlouie is one of the last dudes I'd EVER expect to down anyones ride, so long as it is legit and they're
not trying to scam people.
B) anyone who does put down another's legit example for lack of cache or top shelf labels/brands is PETTY!
C)  anyone who does B to a ride for a kid is a worthless POS!

So ya don't have to apologize for your pit whatsoever my friend!!!

azlouie - OMFG...you own enough Hutch items to create a friggin' Hutch Museum.  Someday I hope to see a pic gallery of everything you've got: at least HUTCH (because I'm sure you've got other bmx items)!!!  Unbelievable my man, unbelievable!

That said pits up!

Off "my bikes" here's my son's old school GHP.  Got it from a former biz partner of Gregg
Hill.  Someday I hope to find a pic that was taken of the bike, its original owner and Gregg one race weekend BITD::

Why are they called pit bikes?   I came up in the mid school era, good 16" bikes weren't really around then.

In both BMX and MX, it was popular to ride a 16" or 50cc bike in the pit area between races.

I keep buying and selling, so I guess I wasn't happy with the four I had left.

Are the tubes aero or oval on the forks?

Those are exactly like mine, a slightly later 82 pit with the built in seat clamp - they are bladed (aero), you can easily tell by the teardrop cut outs, the later round-pinch versions had a solid fork tab.
So they did make a round-pinch version, ala dyd forks, but they are rarely seen - I own a set of them, nos and in the og box (tho i do wish I had an nos in the box 83 pit frame to match)

Re: Show off those pits!!

Some of the bikes listed are pit bikes while others seem to be just 16" wheeled kids BMX bikes. I always thought there was a difference, no?

Re: Show off those pits!!

Yeah somewhat in my take of it - pit bikes were primarily 16" Bmx bikes bitd there was even a bantam class - the bigger guys would take them and dress them up to good around in the pits .... So many came about someone somewhere decided to race for fun seeing how they aren't technically functional for competitive use - a few companies (JMC being the primary) redesigned them to be a bit more competitive in geometry - they raise the bb to support longer length crank for more torque and lengthened to top tubes to provide more maneuverability thus changing the category - I consider them more pit racers then funny little clown bikes for goofing off.
