1982 Kuwahara E.T.
1982 Kuwahara E.T.
simply unexpected find
7 November 2014:It is done finally...super stoked with this baby. My most prized build. She was so hard to build because of some technical issues in installing the tioga head set, seat tube mast and the tange sealed bottom bracket. almost didn't make in the 2015 calendar build off completed submission. Huge thanks to my two buddies...you know who you are. I know many of you here will enjoy this but not as much as I do...hehehe:))
11 June 2013: At long last...just cant believe it.. just found today 11june2013. went to accompany wife to a tailor..women stuff. came a boy on the bike slowly pass by my car. my god..loop tail, hole in gusset. can that be.......? dropped wife, quickly turn round the corner, eyes searching, boy gone. circled the blocks no sign of the young kid. parked my car and hoping he would reappear. then there he was happily riding.. seemed we are destined to meet. stopped the boy and asked would he sell his bike for rm300 (~90dollars). told me he need to ask his grandma who's looking after a grocery shop nearby. my heart was thumping n hands shivering. long story short. met the lovely old lady. i was greeted with all smiles by his family members.. verrrrry good sign. paid the boy, I GOT IT. like a kid who just found a treasure box took the ET to my car and drove to my BEAUTIFUL wife.
i'm going to build it soon. it appears that the fork(tange), headset(tange) & stem(sugino) are original and the rear mag looks like ogk. The kid is 10 years old and turned out he found the bike at the scrap yard and fixed it himself. I really hope her grandma will buy him a new bike. gonna visit them one day to buy some groceries.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
great story. you must not rush this restoration, finding the right colours paint is a pain in itself. Luckily you have two Et experts in your town.
i like the news paper and the bike. What is the ransom I have to pay

juhara, you seem to be a good, kind hearted person. I do hope you get a chance to drop by and buy the family some groceries
Great story behind your score - love it!
PS. there is a kid in my hood somewhere who rides a mid 70s FMF mini. When I first saw him I thought about chatting him up to see if he would sell, but by the time I decided to go for it he was long gone. I'm optimistic I will find him and his bike again

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
Awesome story that's a way I got my 87' dyno detour. Except he was about to destroy it. I saved it restored it. ET was my first real in counter of "real" BMX. Every single member here. (Age permitting) was influenced by that movie. a kid + a alien + a bike = movie gold! Way to keep a eye out. Glad to see its going to be saved this bikes are vanishing more & more everyday.
That's right I'm different. I like dyno's!!!!!

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
The forks and bars is a cool trick! That kid was very intuitive for his age.

:DFind him u will Axel10, just be sure u have enough cash with u. Like me I did not. Have to rush to the nearest ATM and stand in line. When it's my turn the ATM was out of service..damm. But just when I was about to walk away it's in service again:o Full of drama, thinking the kid might change his mind.

Awesome find and story.
I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.
