1985 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

More to come

11/12/12

Last Sunday I went to the Whittier swap to sell some of the stuff I have. When I got there, I noticed a bunch of people huddled around this guy 2 cars next to me. Once i unloaded my stuff and got situated, i noticed the man was selling 4 or 5 completes that he had in pieces from 25 plus years ago. A NOS skyway complete for 1500.00, 2 early PK's that were just frame and forks that he already sold with unstamped landing gears, and a mint GT performer as well as that pristine PK everyone seemed to pass up. (If I had $1,500.00 i totally would have jumped on it before anyone, even offered more just to grab that deal.) Instead, I settled for the second best score, my dream bike I have always wanted but could never afford.
I asked him why he was selling all of this and his wife butted in saying they needed money. She was the one raising the prices too. (I could tell right off the bat who wore the pants in that family). They originally had everything priced for virtually nothing. After the NOS western H stem, NOS suntour sealed pedals and a norca cup frame sold in one lot to one person for $150.00. Someone must have said something and all the prices on everything shot up right away.
I was a little bit late and already missed the deals he originally started with. When I arrived, people had already scored stuff for cheap but for some reason missed this 85' I scored. I'm not sure if it was because the guy had forgot when he bought it what year it was from because he was telling everyone it was a 91' when it was an 85'. (85' im told is the only year to have the straight lower rear chain stays. As well as the only year to have a vertical SE stamp on the landing gear forks.) as soon as I caught that, I asked him how much and he said $350.00. How it sits.... Mint CW bars, NOS uni seat, mint ACS ROTOR POLYGON stem..... I didn't want to act too interested, So I said, "can you take $300.00?" He said, "no". I then asked him if he could take a deposit, thinking to myself, maybe I can run to the bank or sell more surf by the end of the day. I need to grab this thing. By the end of the day I had lotted all my stuff together and sold it for the remaining balance I needed. Thankfully I managed to do this because I wasn't leaving there without it. lol
Please stay tuned as I will be posting tons of pics of everything I do from the cleaning of the frame, to the soft scrub bleach bath for the grips, to the parts hunt for the build. I will be documenting everything.
This is exactly how I got the bike, original stickers and paint, looks to have been only show mounted or hand assembled and never ridden, a brake has never even been mounted on the brake bridge. The parts that came with the frame and fork are CW bars, ACS ROTOR POLYGON stem, UNI SEAT and a TANGE motocross headset. These 2 pics below were taken at the Whittier bike swap.

Below are some pics I took in good sun light of the frame, fork and parts before I gave them some love with a microfiber cloth and hot water. This is hard to see but it has a bunch of dirt and grime with some yellow sticky stuff behind the seat post mast.

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile
