The longest you've searched for ONE part

Curious to hear the longest you've ever searched for ONE part to complete a build. Not some shelf piece but that ONE part you needed to complete a build. In other words you had a nearly complete ride just sitting for months or years while you searched for it.

Gotta be some cool stories out there. Also would love to hear HOW you finally found it.

Re: The longest you've searched for ONE part

Two years for a lathed Suntour high-flange rear gold hub. A fellow museum member, who rarely logs on, saw my WTB and offered me his as long as I used it on my build. The kicker? Found a second, complete set of hubs less than six months later lol

I have been looking for a gold set of shimano dx cranks for at least 4 years now and still haven't found them, at least for a somewhat decent price.

Took me over 2 years to come up with a Red Line Pro-Line (double clamp) stem. They just don't come up for sale that often.

2 or 3 years for the chrome og GHP pads.... Now, like so many other bmx things, they're repopped and a fraction of the price. The thrill of the hunt is the best part though, right?

Re: The longest you've searched for ONE part

I've given up on a red, rear acs z hub 36h. I just haven't had the heart to build the wheel set using a sunshine rear. The T/A will have to wait.

Re: The longest you've searched for ONE part

It took me 6 months to find a nice redline stem. I either had cash and no stems for sale, or I was broke and there would be something for sale.  On another note, I recently finished a resto on a 1963 Rupp Dart Kart, I had found a double carb setup with one ram tube back in 1993..... after almost 20 years I finally spotted a second match to that ram in a lot pic of parts on ebay and luckily the guy sold it to me separate. I also found another kart part after looking for 10 years same way...in a group parts pic on ebay......   Some of the kart stuff is super rare.
