R.I.P. Jason Wetherhold, Roadkill Bicycles

I am struggling with putting this into words without breaking down again. On Sunday March 10th the bmx world lost a great person. Jason Wetherhold was riding his mountain bike with myself, my son Cory, our friend and teammate Jim Graham and his son Austin when he suffered a massive heart attack. We perfomed CPR and rescue got there within minutes but it was not enough. He passed away at the trails he loved doing something he loved.
I'm still at a loss as to why he had to go when he did so much for so many people in this sport, it's simply not fair. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say there weren't many with a heart as big as his.
I've lost my riding partner, my boss, and more importantly one of my best friends, and going into work without him being there is just an alien feeling.
Rest in peace Jason...I love you man and I will miss you.

Re: R.I.P. Jason Wetherhold, Roadkill Bicycles

Having worked with Jason for years over at Custom Cycle during my time there, the news of this shocked me this weekend, and it just sucks. It's hard to put in words.

Pete, I'm glad that you were one of Jason's closest friends. I know your friendship meant the world to him. I know it's going to take some time to have it all sink in, and your in my thoughts man......

Goodspeed, Jason.... I'm glad I knew you......

Woh Pete, I'm really sorry to hear that.  I offer my sincere condolences.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Sorry for your loss. I too lost a friend on Saturday, though not a surprise as he had terminal cancer. Nonetheless it was tough. Hang in there.

Re: R.I.P. Jason Wetherhold, Roadkill Bicycles

Sorry Pete, with words of high regard coming from you I can only imagine what a  good dude he was. Sucks you all had to be a witness and have the emotion of fighting to get him back, but again you said it: One of his favorite spots doing what he loved surrounded by friends. I can't think of a better way. Godspeed Jason sad

Re: R.I.P. Jason Wetherhold, Roadkill Bicycles

A dear friend who passes suddenly in front of your eyes is forever life changing, know that the good lord made you strong enough to go through that. My sympathy goes out to you and the family as some of us have to carry that for the rest of our lives. May he forever rest in peace and live forever in precious memories.

Horrible beyond words.  Know that you did the very best you could do, and that being there for him and with him was the ultimate act of friendship.  You and all affected will be in my thoughts and meditations.  Hang in there, man.

Re: R.I.P. Jason Wetherhold, Roadkill Bicycles

Sorry my man... just awful. I'm really feeling for his son. That's a heavy load for a kid to carry seeing his Dad die infront of him at such a young age. Look out for that kid... and yours too. Your son probably needs to work out some feelings too. RIP
