1980 Ricardo MX2
1980 Ricardo MX2
A very rare Ricardo MX2 BMX from South Australia
I am not sure if these bikes were sold anywhere other than South Australia as I think they were put together in Adelaide in the very early days of BMX in Australia. This bike came out before the Malvern Star Supermax CRMO. The Ricardo MX1 was based on a Mongoose Cafe frame copy but was all steel and weighed a ton!
This bike was pretty much how it was sold except for the seat and the grips. The bike was purchase in Whyalla when I was 14.
Any other OS Whyalla riders out there?

Re: 1980 Ricardo MX2
Hey Cuppla17, sold this one long ago and started my love affair with Mongoose. I have just started building a 81 Supergoose. So far I have the frame, forks, Elina lightning bolt seat NOS, Redline brute stem, Tioga Comp III tyres, NOS chrome Araya 7x rims, NOS California Lite black pads - slowly but surely. Will put some pics up when it gets closer to completion

Re: 1980 Ricardo MX2

My bro and I are in Adelaide and he's building a few mongoose's, including a supergoose. He currently has an 81 motomag for sale on the Bay comes with other stuff that may help you with the build..

Re: 1980 Ricardo MX2
I thought I was the only one in Australia with a Ricardo????. My bike was purchased in WA so now your 'SA only' theory is put to rest. Like yours my bike weighed a tonne, it was a blue mongoose frame copy with blue OGK Tuffs. It was hard for a six year old to lauch the beast into the air but it was a tough machine.

great bike. this is where BMX started for me in Adelaide. 2 x Ricardo's stolen from Port Adelaide... not all bad, after the second one Mum got me a Redline...
All I want for in this life is a Haro Plate... Take one of your wall, sell it to me and let it see daylight again!
