What were Dyno VFR's used for?

I remember I had a badass 93 neon green Dyno VFR, rare color way, were they race bikes back in the day?

Re: What were Dyno VFR's used for?

Yep entry level race. Very nice bikes, my first one came stock with Mohawk hubs on aluminum rims and GT AA Pro race tires. Really the only thing making them entry level was the steel frame

I had one I bought cheap to ride to school so I wouldn't have to worry about my S&M getting jacked.

Re: What were Dyno VFR's used for?

I bought my first vfr for 35.00 from a friend when I was a teen, he also sold me a redline frame and fork, a set of wheels, and some other parts , all for around 50.00 ,  wish i could still get deals like that.  I bought a dyno vfr for 50.00 off cl a couple years ago.  I got the dyno and a gt mach one for 100.00 I thought it was a good deal. the mach one is in my bikes, and the dyno will be in there once i dig it out and get the seriel number off it.  I always thought they were too heavy for a race bike. The mach one rides a lot better.

Haha. Just saying in general. Thanks man. They are not race bikes by any means but they have their place. And it's not a scrap pile.

Re: What were Dyno VFR's used for?

I Did a job for a guy like 8 years ago. For the couple days I was there I stored my compressor and crap in his garage. There was a Neon green Dyno VFR layin in there lookin beat down and unloved. When I was loading out of the job he was shootin the shit with me and i said something bout the Dyno- he said take it. So I did.
The Dyno sat in My garage for  years..... Then I began dating the Old Lady. Her Son was up in the garage pile one day and asked about it. He was rollin a 16" at the time and was outgrowin it. So next rain day I hit the local hardware store for some tires and tubes and got it cleaned up and runnin. When He got home from school He was stoked to jump on it and ride.smile
Then I began thinking about BITD. Then I became a member Here. Then I became a slave to the BMX monster.
OR........
I used a Dyno VFR as a tool to reintroduce me to the world of BMX.cool

I like BMX bikes.

Re: What were Dyno VFR's used for?

Mike Parenti had the neon green VFR back in 92-93ish. His neighbor built some jumps that seemed pretty big at the time, and knowing that Mike was a badass, talked him into to jumping a new double. One of the older guys told him people were already jumping it, so after a good 5 minutes of contemplation, he said f it and went for it. He hit the lip, caught some huge air, and his front wheel hit the inside of the landing. He bent his forks pretty badly and did a Pete Rose down the landing, but was ok! Not really relevant but totally awesome.

Re: What were Dyno VFR's used for?

Not trying to take away from the conversation or the VFR, but I think the Nitro is a better bike.  The Nitro has chromoly maintubes while the VFR is all high tensile steel.  The reason I'm saying this is because I see them on craigslist for around the same price.  So, if there is anyone who is thinking of buying either one, the material is the main difference.

I wouldn't ride one, but I think it would be the perfect bike to have around the house so one of my son's friends could ride it.  Hell, if he didn't have a bike, I would probably just give it to him.
