1981 Mongoose Fork dropouts

What is the proper size axle for this fork? the fork is originak to frame.
a 3/8 axle will not fit in dropouts

You sure? 3/8 should fit fine.

You sure it's a Mongoose fork? OG to the bike is not necessarily OG to a Mongoose.

Generally it would be 3/8. Could it require a slotted axle to get past the fork dropouts?

I was riding back then and I had an 80 or 81 Mongoose btw. I can't remember exact details about specifications though.

Re: 1981 Mongoose Fork dropouts

yes it's an original nickel fork and frame. the more i look at it the more i believe the drop outs may be slightly bent. i cannot even put hub between dropouts.
they appear straight but dropouts are hitting lock nuts on axle.
this is getting frustrating!

Re: 1981 Mongoose Fork dropouts

Is it an axle diameter issue, or a width issue, where the hub nuts are too far apart? Some road bike hubs get "converted" to BMX, and they dont' get re-spaced. I think BMX spacing is 110MM. If it's much more than that, you might have a wrong hub.

Pics? What brand is the hub?
