1986 Sharp Freestyle Neon Lites
1986 Sharp Freestyle Neon Lites
SOLD.
Close up pictures in the post.
I got this bike just as you see it minus the tires. I spent a weekend taking it apart and cleaning, polishing and regreasing.
All decals are there and in very nice shape. The paint is great with very few scratches and virtually no fading and no rust anywhere. As far as I can tell Sharp was a Toys"r"us brand. The components are cheap as can be but work. The brakes are the stamped steel kind and the stem in the only part of the bike that has some aluminum ( the stem cap). I compared the frame to an 85 GT performer and it is a inch by inch copy of it and they did a very reasonable job. I do not think it is 4130 but it weighs the same as the GT, go figure. ( they did not copy the bologna cut though )
I flat out love the color, this is a keeper!
I might upgrade the brakes to Lee-Chi brakes.
You don't HAVE to build every frame and fork you own... right?

Very cool rarity! I wonder if there could be any connection between this bike and my Kia Stinger, which is also a GT Performer clone that was sold at Toys R Us. Mine also has the built-in seatpost clamp and some similar components (stem, brakes, pedals), although the frame is slightly different since mine has the "bologna cut" at the back of the top tube. Looks like this one is is in great shape too!

This bike was made in Taiwan and I bet the same factory made bikes with different stickers and options accoring to the customer's order. There seems to be a lot of similar bikes with different brand names, I bet they are all cousins of each other.

Re: 1986 Sharp Freestyle Neon Lites
wow, that's a real find! I like the color.
I found a green version F/F on CL in Buffalo for $40.00. Got 'em for $20.
It was even listed as a Performer clone. It's missing the headtube decal.
Yours is really sweet.
