How many unstamped 1984 GT Performers were made?

Does anyone out there know how many unstamped GT Performer frames were made in 1984? According to my serial # and using the method that was explained to me to determine the production run, it would mean that there are/were 1600+ unstamped frames out there. I understand that this frame is a rare bird, but if there were over 1600 made, I would think they should be much easier to find.....

Anyone out there with this knowledge?

Thanks for any and all info you guys can provide on this for me.

Re: How many unstamped 1984 GT Performers were made?

No, that doesn't make sense.  My '84 Pro is March and has a stamp.  I don't believe they exclusively stamped series runs to the models (in otherwords, Pros, cruisers, JR's, Performers, etc all fell in one series).  Mine is not even 1400.

I really don't know, but I would bet the number is more like dozens.  Did they make any before February?  They only made a few hundred bikes per month total.

I'm travelling this week....anything purchased will be shipped on 5/23/20.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

There was one at the Philly BBQ last spring, and because of it's rarity it beat some really high end freestyle bikes.  I want to say there has to be a low number of them built. 84 models in general are low produced let alone the blank bologna.

Re: How many unstamped 1984 GT Performers were made?

In doing my research, I have seen 2 bmxmuseum members who have 2 each of the unstamped '84 frame. Counting mine, Black Saturday's, and Wilkerson's, that makes 7. Please chime in if you have one. I would really like to know just how rare this frame is....tongue

Funny thing is....I remember being mad that my frame did not have the stamp BITD when I saw other GT's that had it.....go figure!

Knowing what I know now, I am happy that my Redline 102b got stolen all those years ago and this is the bike that replaced it....big_smile

the guy I sold mine to claimed they weren't that rare but then again he wanted to buy it and paid $375 for just the frame.

Re: How many unstamped 1984 GT Performers were made?

What would the correct decals be for the unstamped frame? If I remember correctly, my frame had the GT Performer decals, minus the "Pro". I believe the very early '84's were only available in f/f. They were not called Pro Performers until the whole bike was available.

Can anyone lend some insight?

I just ordered a new Pro Performer decal set, but the more I think of it, I seem to recall the original decals being just GT Performer. BITD I removed the original decals and replaced them with the '86 blue and pink scheme.

Let's get some serial number information going here. When did GT start making Performer frames? I just cleaned one up yesterday. yep another February frame. Were they built before Feb??

I believe that one was actually an 83 serial number. If I remember correctly it's extremely early build date plus the lack of stamping both played a part. Or at least, that's how I heard the story.

Re: How many unstamped 1984 GT Performers were made?

Does anyone Make a stickerset for the 84's?  I've looked around and can't find it anywhere...

Here's one found a couple weeks ago and finally just went and picked up, didn't know it was an unstamped until I showed up to pick it up today.  I didn't have the bars, stem or any of the brakes, but it did come with the early square tube framestanders and pat.pend forkstanders.  Surface rust is there but this is going to clean up nicely, it goes into the OA bath tomorrow morning.  March of 84 serial #
