Re: Post up your S&M MAD DOG info!

Awesome bike! Do my eyes deceive me, or is that a single brake bridge on a 88? I usually see double ones on the 88’s. Yours kind of looks like it’s double thick, but a single plate?? Is that a retro fork? Definitely one of the coolest Md’s I’ve seen in a while!!! ????

Re: Post up your S&M MAD DOG info!

Yea it’s a double thick powerlight brake bridge. Fork is not a retro, it’s a genuine 89/90 S&M fork. Serial is SM888175.

I bought the bike frame and fork from Dan on here. Was in lovely shape but had unfortunately had the dropouts cut to 14mm. Pat from Limit kindly repaired the dropouts very carefully so that The original chrome was preserved. Down tube and seat tube decals are originals, head tube and forks are repop. I then built it up with a bunch of parts that were from the same era as I would have ridden it back in the day.

Re: Post up your S&M MAD DOG info!

Here’s some more scrap metal to add to the list Papalone13.  Trooper had his frame up on eBay and he accepted my offer.

GT production date stamp November 1990
Marked “XL” with 20” top tube length

SN:  11900190 S&M XL

I’m saying this is a GT made 1990/91 Dirtbike unless someone with more knowledge than me can show otherwise. Double drops are cool to see!

It’s one of the last no gusset GT made frames and I’m happy to have this early piece of S&M history even if it currently is the ugliest frame I own tongue

What do you think — is it old school or mid school or both?

I'd say these are on the cusp of old/mid. It's really hard to tell if it's a MD or DB without the original finish and decals. Here's a few pics I pulled up of my old GT made Mad Dog:
