Re: REDLINE RL20, RL20a Prostylers Thread

I need to get some better pics.  Been lots of changes since these were taken.  It's now sporting a six bolt Forklifter stem, opcs and a red Shot Gun III.
I present to you, my 86 rider.

This is how it looked when I first built it.  I couldn't deal with the tall bars after I put the rotor on there.

Re: REDLINE RL20, RL20a Prostylers Thread

Here's the one I picked up yesterday after cleaning it for hours. I always loved these bikes too. Really good rep of freestyle in the 80's.

Never... That is the original drive train to the bike. I put flights on it when I first got it, but then I decided to go 100% stock. Then it took me
about a 1.5 years before I found everything.

Good call. I love the way you have it set up now. The OPC movement is in full swing. People are finally coming to their senses.

Re: REDLINE RL20, RL20a Prostylers Thread

Sure I'll throw mine in there.  Love riding this bike.  But I am thinking of putting my flights on to see how it looks.  And I need new pics anyway since I got new tires.

Here's my old chromed out '86 with '88 decals. This bike got parted out and I sold most of those parts.  I do miss it...it rode really nice and turned a few heads.

+1 I'm in the same boat, new flights on right now, just need to clean up a opc, I managed to track down the spider. Looks great, pads repro? What brakes are you running, 880's?

I was going to do my RL-20a all original too....but then I said why....will it look better, will it perform better?  No on both accounts (to me).  So I redid it just I would have done it back in the day, and in my eyes it looks better than stock, certainly would perform better.  Best part about it is that the improved parts probably cost about the same as the original lesser quality stuff.

Pads are original but not to the bike. Brakes are 890's and are original to the bike. The pads, seat, grips and tires were the hardest parts to find... Most of the bike was there when I got it.

Not sure about that, but those cranks have been on that bike for almost 29 years so why change them now?

Re: REDLINE RL20, RL20a Prostylers Thread

Nice. cool

Careful that the Porsche doesn't scratch the Redline wink

I like they way you have it, looks very trick friendly....not so much ride friendly though.

Surprised you dont slap on some new Flights, they are so affordable and would really upgrade the looks IMHO.    The Prostyler frames all look especailly weird without 3 pc cranks due to the huge downtube, makes the OPC look even skinnier than it is.

I had no wraps on it for the longest time.  I agree, the opcs do look too skinny next to that huge downtube, but this bike is about performance, not looks.  The seat post is a braced Tioga post, and goes almost all the way to the bottom bracket.  I have plenty of room to raise it if I want to take it on a booze cruise.  I'm short and keep it low so it doesn't get in the way while I'm in the air.

Thanks Matt!  You'll get to ride it in 2 weeks!  big_smile.   I do wish the 6 bolt had a longer reach though.  hard to find a long reach stem thats drilled for a rotor AND doesn't add any height to the bars.  I'm gonna finish this laundry and go practice cherrypickers!

My '86.  It was a friend of mines bike.  He bought the F/F new in '86.  Built it up as he could afford with parts.  I bought it from him a year ago.
