Re: 1997 GT Performer

Hi I think that  performer might actually be a 1995 model, the 1987 performers had the bend at the top of the down tube instead of the bottom, i had once owned a 1994 which had the "S" bend in the downtube, the year after that i think was when they started with the frame that you have.

Re: 1997 GT Performer

the seatstay bends are the dead giveaway that this is a latemodel performer and no u brake bosses count out properformer. As for mach one that was a racing bike and nothing remotely like this one.

Re: 1997 GT Performer

ARG!! I just found out. This is NOT a GT Performer. It *is* a 1997 GT Vertigo. I feel so so so stupid. Sorry if I caused anyone any grief on this one. Erf...

Re: 1997 GT Performer

It can't be a vertigo if it has 990 posts on the chainstays

Re: 1997 GT Performer

Bigcoz, I added a pic of a 97 GT Vertigo. It's blue. A friend who owns a bike shop here (Area 51, Chris) sent me this pic. He says it is a 97 Vertigo, but without the 990s. I'm just goin' on what he said. He does own a bike shop.

Re: 1997 GT Performer

All of GT's freestyle frames were the same basic design that year. They only differed in what tubes were chromoly/hi-ten and if they had 990 posts or not. Seeing that yours has 990 posts it is at least 1 or 2 steps up from a vertigo. I don't remember if the standard performer had posts that year, but I'll change my guess to pro freestyle tour. i think the pro performer was discontinued by then.

Re: 1997 GT Performer

RealFox:  I just met some dude from Area 51.  He was passing through my city on his way to Boston where he is moving to I guess.   Real nice guy,  drives a minivan.   I think his name was Damon or something.  We shredded Chengaworld while he was around

Re: 1997 GT Performer

As far as I know, there are no other employees at Area 51. Chris is the owner.

Re: 1997 GT Performer

I hate to say it but your bike isn't a performer.  I just joined this site and sent in pictures of my 97 performer.
