1997 DYNO Compe Restoration

Well, if I haven't already complicated my life enough with my Black widow restoration, http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=444561
I just couldn't resist the temptation of this Dyno compe it was just sitting there staring at me, as if it was begging me to bring it back to where it was once was. smile

So let the fun begin. lol

Sweet!  Chrome rust buckets are a lot of fun to bring back from the dead.  This has real potential!

Re: 1997 DYNO Compe Restoration

I took the bike apart and started the restoration. smile I put some OA  directly on the really rough areas with a wire brush to get the process started, so I would not have to leave the parts in the final bath as long. I then soaked some parts in the OA bath.

The parts started to look better within a few hours. big_smile

Re: 1997 DYNO Compe Restoration

Compound finishes off minor scratches and cleans up the chrome then you must wax them when they are finished, Deeper scratches need to Buffed out on a buffing wheel. Fortunately these handle bars didn't have many deep scratches. big_smile

Re: 1997 DYNO Compe Restoration

I'm going to follow this and I'm looking foward to doing it.  Although, I'm sure with what I have seen so far, I can predict a super clean bling-a-licious dyno compe at the end.

Re: 1997 DYNO Compe Restoration

I've been amazed several times at how well an old sticker protects chrome.  This bike should look amazing when you're done.  Makes me want to go pull down the rusty Trek I have hanging...
