Re: Rare BMX bikes.....TOP TEN

I'd love to have this 1980 blue Race Inc. 24" with ano gold all around.     I'd put on gold Odyssey Adam Banton grips and a blue KMC chain.

Sure I'll look like a bear at the circus, but I'll get a little fun out of it.

Nishiki.

So rare there isn't even a category for them in this museum! I know they existed though 'cos a guy who lived not far from me had one in about 1983 or '84. I'm sure I've got some old ads for them from UK BMX magazines somewhere (could be wrong about that). I'll have a dig when I get a mo.

I had a Nishiki BITD. Looked similar to a redline, with the small gusset. Loved that ride.

Re: Rare BMX bikes.....TOP TEN

1983 jmc cruiser. 1 of 7 done in blue. 2 known to be left.the guy that has the other one is on vintage bmx.when i found the jmc, i got it home and e-mailed jim milton to see there was any history on this frame. i emailed jim a pic of the serial number and he emailed me back and said that back in december of 1983 jmc painted 7 cruiser frames and forks in blue. out of the 7 mine was the last frame and fork (7th one)that was painted blue in december of 1983.then i posted it on vintage. look what i scored. and a thats when i found out about the last 2 that are known to be left.

Re: Rare BMX bikes.....TOP TEN

Pete Loncarevich allegedly had a company @ '83 with his engineer dad called Loncarevich Racing Products. LRP is said to have made pedal cages and frames. He even tried to ride them through the '83 season, but was unable to do so, possibly die to financial limitations.

Has anyone ever seen an LRP frame?

*and also I want to second Gary's mention of brass CWs, whether 20", 24", or 26". There are probably less brass Zs than there are crap a$$ 24" Phaze 1s.

Re: Rare BMX bikes.....TOP TEN

A lot of these posts are just referencing cruiser versions of the bikes instead of the actual bike names/companies as being rare.  To me, rare is something unheard of, limited numbers, no longer around or ones that do not have many examples left.  I guess some cruiser versions of bikes qualify for that so some of these are ok.

Someone mentioned RRS.  RRS is definitely rare AND they were WAY ahead of their time in technology.  I have to jar the ol' brain for some names (and they will come to me) but the one contribution I can think of right now to add here is The WEDGE.

limited numbers built, small team (Mr. Stix) from the early 80's and few if any left.  Here is a pic of one borrowed from the museum.  Tom Daniels of Thruster built these in NJ for Stix.  Stix was an engineer/designer friend of Daniels (RIP).

That's the one I was referring of earlier, the original owner of that f&f lives here in St. Louis, actually Kirkwood Mo.
