1986 Dyno Compe II
1986 Dyno Compe II
My dream bike as a kid
The first bmx magazine I ever got was an issue of Freestylin' from 1986 and it it had a ad as well as a test for the "all new Dyno Compe II" . I fell in love with it instantly and begged my parents for it forever(tough to spend near $400 on a bike for a ten year old in 1986 when K Mart had "perfectly good bikes" for $75!). When I finally convinced them a year later, the 87's were out and the Compe II was gone forever. I got a blue 87 D-Tour but the Compe II still was my dream bike. Fast forward about 17 years and the bmx bug bit me like so many others. Looking around on ebay, I came across an NOS green Dyno D-30 Frame and Fork and it grew into a passion from there. I wanted the bike in the ad from 86 and I finally had a chance to do it. Hunting down all the parts was the fun part, before prices went insane for everthing(thankfully or it probably would have never happened). Although I never rode it for more then 30 seconds, just the fact of finally having my first "dream" bike as a kid is more then enough!

Very sweet bike I still have my childhood bike but it is a 1987 dyno pro comp. After seeing your awsome bike I might just have mine repainted. Great bike, great story.

Re: 1986 Dyno Compe II
I had the same issue of Freestylin' and fell in love with the same bike! Same story about getting one, too. Big difference is, you finally got yours! I'm still waiting for an elusive Compe 2. Sweet ride, dude!

Re: 1986 Dyno Compe II
Thanks for all the comments, guys.
My "just turned" 7 year old was up in our attic the other day and spied it. He's seen it before but never paid much attention to it. This time he says, "Holy cow, Dad, why don't you ever ride this bike?!? That thing is awesome!"
I'm still, to this day, totally stoked that I have it, even though it never gets bothered with.

I took my white and blue one out in public this last weekend....take yours out and you will get the "Holy Cow!" reaction from many many people! I had a girl in her early teens tell me it was pretty. Dudes our age (mid 30's anyway) freaked out...stories started to flow....

He's right! Ride it, you'll see. All the neighborhood kids stop and watch my son when he takes out my Raleigh!

Re: 1986 Dyno Compe II
I almost bought one of these in 86 since they were a bit cheaper than the Pro Performer and optioned very similar. I think they were great bikes, and yours is an excellent example of why I liked them so much.

Re: 1986 Dyno Compe II
This bike is beautiful, how can you not ride it, at least lightly? My favorite color for these, too. Just absolutely perfect.
