Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

The 3 main shops I grew up in / worked at / screwed off at were:

1. The Bike Barn - Walzem Road - San Antonio, Texas
2. The Spoke Shop - Walzem Road - San Antonio, Texas
3. Action Bikes - Pat Booker Road - Universal City, Texas

The first two have been gone for ages.  Action Bikes is still in business today but Jim Sanders sold it to Howard years ago and is in a new location further down the road closer to RAFB.  I still stop by once and a while to see the guys over there.  Great shop / awesome customer service!!!

Trading (not selling):
My NOS green Haro tires for NOS purple or pink Haro tires
My 1990 Bashguard Team Master f/f for a 1990 Bashguard Zolatone Master f/f

WTB:
1989 / 1990 Haro Bashguard plates for Master and Sport
1984 VDC Freestyler / 1984 GJS Freestyler Forks - condition doesn't matter / 1984 Free Agent Freeflite / 1984 Powerlite Freestyle

Bob's Bike Shop in downtown Niagara Falls, NY.   I worked there summers '87, '88 + '89.  Does anyone remember Betty Boyce and Jim Lester from there??

Interestingly I bought a bike at the Bike Barn in Houston back in '96.  I just checked, they have 8 locations.  Wonder if it's the same owners.

PlayTime bike shop - Owner was killed during a Robbery and the place shut down.

Also was one in Whiting and another in Highland Indiana but I do not remember their names.

Ridge cyclery(sp) became my go to for bike stuff as its like the only one in that area.

Metuchen Bike Shop
457 Main St
Metuchen, NJ 08840

I recall walking into to a rainbow of gt performer choices and walking out with a 1985 blue GT performer back in 85. I also know another bmx museum member who got their lavender gt there BITD. But like many shops. Closed.

"Young" was a hell of a bike mechanic.  I believe his son(s) run the shop now.  This was the spot for a lot Queens riders back in 90s and 00s.   Young had this cabinet behind the counter which he would let all the big riders at the time, sign.  I remember seeing Robbie Morales, Jay Miron, Hoffman's signature on it.  Pretty cool.   They also had a beautiful Neon Haro Group 1 composite hanging on the wall for years.  Good memories.

Most BMX parts etc. had to be special ordered.  But had a rad lineup of skateboard stuff in late 80’s.

Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

First BMX and Freestyle bikes came from

Anthony's Bike Shop- Highland Park, NJ unfortunately long gone

Later on it was:

Kim's Bike Shop- New Brunswick, NJ
Still there but minimal BMX

Stan's Bike and Sport- South River, NJ
Worked there, great shop.  Another long gone

Bicycle Rack- Spotswood, NJ
Gone from orginal location but visited last year in Hightstown, NJ. Same owner (Van) and he didn't age a day.  Still has photos from back in the day and his mechanic has an awesome collection.  Not much BMX for sale though.

Today Im a Downtown BMX, Summerfield, NC fan.
