Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

Mark Twain jr high school metal shop class. We made our own BMX parts. No such thing as a candy ass "BMX shop" in my day. winklol

When I find a part i need for something I am putting together and I have no trust as to weather the part is 30 years old or 30 days old and I'm being charged a price on par with the real genuine and true item. I not only have to question the logic of people with your mind set but the state of the whole hobby in general. That is more to the point why so many people that knew better just walked away. Because they stopped being "OLD" kids bikes and are just kids bikes. Where in all that does the bullshit really lay?

Quincy Cycle in Quincy, MA. Long gone.
Was a Schwinn dealership. Redline too. Santa swung by there in 1980 and grabbed me a Redline MX-II.

Looking for a USA-made pre 1981 Redline MXII f/f with original black paint and decals.

Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

Dennison's Schwinn Bike Shop
6220 Whittier Blvd,
Los Angeles, CA 90022

Sadly Bill Blake passed away and the shop has been closed.

Tony's Schwinn Bike Shop
1112 S Atlantic Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90022

Joe is a nice kind man.

Dennison's was closer, but I used to go to Tony's on occasion, that's where I got my first Silver Streak, bought the Turbo at Dennisons.

Shoot, I remember Quincy Cycle..more in going by it than actually patronizing though.

Is the Bicycle Link in Weymouth still there?  I know the Western Auto that was a Schwinn dealer closed a few years ago.

Ed' bike shop , York county PA.  Ed , God rest his soul , had everything you saw advertised in the magazines in every color. Always had PK's and Quads in stock . Many fond memory's of that place , it was in the basement of his house in a suburban neighborhood . Shop is still there , it's simply called The Bike House now and run by his widow.  Was the place to be in the 80's !

As I recall, there were 2 or 3 "Eds" over the years. Amazing that place is still there. It was always so trippy to drive through a little neighborhood, park, walk around the backyard and down the stairs to the basement into BMX Mecca. I bought tons of stuff there while my mom chatted with the owner. I remember her being super nice and "Ed" always being a little grumpy. Bought my Quadangle Freestyler there. I think it was an 84 that I got on close-out in 85. I was just poking around looking for something cool and found it all the way in the back. Had to have it.

Bicycle X Change and Tom Sawyers Bike Shop (45 years and 55 years in business respectively and still going STRONG)
been around since i was a kid.  if you were into BMX through the 70's and 80's around wichita, you have most likely been in these stores.  Both are HUGE supporters of the Old School Bike Scene and sponsor and promote our rides, build offs and odd ball events we have all year.  Amazing shops that we are very lucky to still have as customers and as OS BMX Geeks! smile

Quality Bike in Milwaukee. They were great to us. They sponsored us by hauling us to races, letting us make payments on our bikes and parts while using them. It was a great neighborhood bike shop. I don’t think you could find anyone to let you pay off your bike while using it with no paper work now a days.

My local family owned shop opened in 1955 and its still open today, that is where I bought all my BMX stuff in the 1980's and still buy old/new bike parts to this day...

Early 90s
Golden Ring bike shop
Rosedale MD

At 14 I traded Bobles (employee) a 91 PK ripper for a chrome 91-92 s&m dirtbike w skull decals.
I had a dirtbike with landing gear. Decent trade looking back I loved both bikes....
It started the s&m addiction
Damn I want that pk back now. It was an xl 1 inch threaded with lower pitbull setup. It was painted brown last time I saw it.

Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

Back in the day the BMX gang I was in we would ride all day to get to different shops.  Luckily back in those days I would leave the house in the morning and as long as I was home for dinner no questions were asked.   I still frequent ChipNDales, Mr Bills, and Erlton shops.

Action Wheels in Woodbury, NJ
Mr Bills in Palmyra, NJ
ChipNDale BMX, Mt Holly, NJ
Workman’s Schwinn, Moorestown, NJ
Erlton Bike Shop, Cherry Hill, NJ

Re: List your OLD SCHOOL BMX Bike Shop Here

I just found out today that the bicycle shop that I've been dealing without throughout my entire life had closed at the very end of last year. This is the same shop that my brother purchased his '81 Schwinn Predator which eventually became my first bicycle. I'm genuinely sad over this news, and this news video seems to suggest online business is hurting local bike shops:
