Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

The bunnyhop, I would image was the trick that we all saw that we wanted to learn... But, how do you make the bike go UP when your feet are on TOP of the pedals. Over the years many riders mastered the art of the bunnyhop, and this thread is to document those hops. If you know the date the pic was taken and the location mention it in your post. Or if you just have a good bunnyhop story, go to town and tell us.

Here is one of mine, in Tulsa Oklahoma in the fall of 1990 when I started college. I told some of the guys that I was a freestyle biker, and they were like "can you bunnyhop?"...

So I got two scared volunteers, who laid down, but I told them to get on their hands and knees instead...

Needless to say they were shocked when I cleared them easily.

Good times.

http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv50/FreeEnterprise/90ORUbunnyhop2.jpg

I got my dad to make me a set of bunnyhop bars in 1985, and we would have contests all the time until our forearms were killing us... After about 4 years I could clear the top. I still have freakishly large forearms from BMX... A few years ago, I wondered if I could still bunnyhop.

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

I don't have any pics, but the proudest moment I ever had in BMX was the first time I hopped a cinder block standing on end. Probably around summer of '97 on my '86 Californian.

When I bunnyhop I hear a creak and I don't know if it's my bike or my joints. Oh well.

strangely in my neck of the woods, we didn't call this trick a bunnyhop. we called it a bronco. pulling the front up then the back. we called a bunnyhop hoping both wheels up at the same time.

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

Funny story, back in jr high, I got 5 kids to sacrifice their jewels to lay down on the sidewalk after school one day waiting for the bus and I bunny hopped them a few times. No close calls. Not sure if I could still bunny hop that high and far.

No pics either. All just fun in my memory.. big_smile (before cell phones unfortunately.)

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile

Yup, similar in my neighborhood, too.

Bunnyhop = both wheels up at the same time

Hi-jack = front then rear

Ji-hack = rear (endo) then front

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

We just called them all bunnyhops, some people were more uniform at them than others. (I'm always front wheel first, sometimes accidentally get both at the same time) lol

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

We had a buddy that lived a few block away who's house was on a corner lot. His lawn was elevated about three feet from the street level. There was a curb, then a vertical brick wall then a row of brick on top. We would get up to about 20 mph down the street and crank hard towards the wall then bunny hop onto the lawn. When you landed your body was already compressed so we occationally wiped out once we hit the lawn. That was an all of nothing bunny hop. I never ate the wall but if you did, good thing it was the eighties and our bikes had pads!!

I used to bunnyhop the homeless when they were sleeping in the park. Good thing none of them ever sat up!

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

This photo has seen so much use over the years on this forum that even I'm sick of it.  Oh well, one more for the road.  I'm squatting, my buddy Eric is hopping and yes, we wore leathers during shows back in 1984.

Re: Bunnyhops... Your favorite pics or stories about stuff you hopped over

i chose the root to bunnyhop 'cause for some reason i need a point of reference on the ground to hop. even a newspaper or an empty pack of cigarettes. when i try to hop on blank pavement at a time of my choosing i end up bringing my front too high or my back and landing on my forks. i get F'ed up. i dunno why.
