Re: Bob Haro new bike. What is this?

I wonder how many of these are broken regularly.

There are two that regularly race at my track, and the riders love their bikes and have had no problems whit them.

Yup, full carbon frame right there.

I like new school, it's all I ride.
I love to look at all BMX bikes, I just love the sport.

Re: Bob Haro new bike. What is this?

I got an email for Bob this morning.

Ikonix 30th Anniversary FS bike
Ikonix 30th Anniversary FS bike

Please find a spy shot of my new Limited Edition Ikonix freestyle bike. This bicycle is in celebration of the first freestyle bike ever produced which I designed and made 30 years ago this summer.

This bike will be a modern design with some classic elements from the DNA of my first Freestyler.

I plan to produce only 540 bikes on a very limited run basis and they will be available on a first come, first served basis. Early buyers will receive lower serial numbers and the bragging rights that go with this so sign-up today at wwwbhikonix.com for your chance to reserve your bike today.

We'll keep you posted with the lastest information and will let you know when we go live with this exclusive offering.

Thanks for your interest in Ikonix!

Best regards -

Bob Haro

And then he links to a book by Kafka. Jeebus. Just tell me where to send the money already.

Here is my prototype Ikonix SX1 race bike I've created for the Designed to Win exhibit at the Design Museum in London.

The Ikonix SX1 prototype bucks traditional BMX thinking and judging by the feedback it's received its creating some cont
roversy with the BMX purists. While most feedback has been positive to thinking differently I've managed to push some out of their normal BMX comfort zone.

The Designed to Win exhibition is a must see if you happen to be in London and special thanks to Oakley for the invitation to debut my new bike along side many state of artequipment like Williams F1 cars, Tour de France bicycles, Adidas Olympic footware and many other high-performance sports gear.

For information of the exhibition check here -

http://designmuseum.org/media/item/7969 … -final.pdf

Ikonix SX1 Specs:
Frame / Ikonix Carbon Fiber frame
Fork / Ikonix triple-clamp fork with carbon fiber fork blades
Wheels / Concept carbon fiber 6-spoke wheels
Chain stays + triple clamps / CNC machined 7075 Aluminum
Sprocket / Ikonix
Brakes / Magura
Cranks / Shimano DXR

Best regards -

Bob Haro

Here is a picture of what the actual race bike will look like, the one shown at the Olympics was just a concept bike wink

Well at least is has a disc brake.....something all bikes should have for decades.  Those 90s race bikes look far more radical and out of this world.

Re: Bob Haro new bike. What is this?

It looks like Haro Bikes stopped caring about all the guys for the 2012 Freestyler Retro f/f , why would Bob Haro care about this thing that won't likely go past a set of drawings and mock-up ?

Getting hit by a car is going to break any material.  All frames can break, are you saying no Chromo frames have broken?  Get educated before you comment, or actually ride it before you make an assumption.  I'm sure we can all google good, and bad of carbon, aluminum, and chromo...  it's not very hard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_O9PLorYPA

Regardless, there's no point in continuing on about carbon.  I'd never buy that bike, but I can respect the forward thinking, and actually have spent many, many miles on carbon.  I've crashed my MTB a hundred times, with minimal damage.

I also play hockey with CF hockey sticks...  do I break them?  Sure, but I've broken plenty of wood sticks as well.

Carbon serves it's purpose, I'm sure you'll all have the ability to buy chromo frames, so go ahead, and do so.  Bob will continue to innovate, I think he's got a pretty good track record for it.  wink

Very true, and we don't know how all those bikes broke but I see some on that site that broke on a smooth track and or velodrome....we are talking bikes that cost $10k....

Not all carbon bikes cost $10k.  I have a carbon race bike for road, and a carbon mountain bike (race) and neither one of them cost even half of $10k.

All materials have a breaking point, carbon fiber is no different.  Personally, I have never had a carbon frame or carbon component break on me.  And I do race my road and mountain bikes.

Considering that this web address -- http://www.bhikonix.com/ -- takes you nowhere, it seems like Bob Haro has given up on the project.

I really do feel for you guys , that's a lot of money for a f/f and not being able to get a sticker because of damaged boxes in shipping is total BS .
