Nice Elite. I actually have the same one, also build in 94 and sold in 95. When I bought mine it had an 1" fork with spacers inside. Just changed the fork to unthreaded and put an Aheadset Team stem on it.
It seems that GT moved from caliper brakes and threaded forks in 94/95. Oddly there seem to exist some bikes with canti-mounts but still sporting the 1" headtube.
