1982 Kuwahara KYZ
1982 Kuwahara KYZ
The Chrome ET
I called this the Chrome ET as it almost has exactly the same frame as a Kuwahara 2.5. I wanted to use similar parts as an ET for this build. As I have alots of red parts left over I went for a red and black look.
Before assembly of the bike, I took a pic of all the parts for the build. It reminded me of the template for model aeroplane. Happy viewing.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara KYZ
Very nice.
This is one of those Kuwaha Looptails with really laid back geometry that is totally different to the ET's. Some of the looptails had ET geometry and some have a really pronounced laid back geometry like yours. You can see it in the pic below, the seat tube and head tube are at right angles to the top tube where as yours isn't at right angles to the top tube.
Your bike will have a half cromo frame where the ET was high tensile steel but your forks are high tensile and the ET's where cromo. In another twist, on release these bikes were designated model KE-1 in the 1982 Kuwahara Distributors Catalog and didn't appear to be called KYZ until sometime in 1983.

Gooser Thanks for the info. Yes, the geometry is very different to that of an ET. the gusset also appears to be larger than the ET's.
