1985 GT Pro Performer
1985 GT Pro Performer
This is my true survivor. Purchased brand spankin new back in 1986. Although an 85 model, this is the one I saw on display at Van's Bike & Key Shop in Long Beach, California. (I think they're still around, but I think they only do keys now.) Anyways, the kind owner back then said,"Go ahead and take it for a spin around the parking lot and let us know if you like it....." I came back after riding around the parking lot and told my mom that I had to have it. 35 years later (3/17/2021), she's still with me. I've added a few upgrades to her like the three piece Sugino GT's, chrome 48 Araya's laced up to GT Mohawks, sitting on Tioga Comp Pool tires. I'm not restoring her yet, but eventually she'll get powder coated by professionals before I retire her.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer
Nice GT. Personally, if I were you I wouldn't restore it. It's in great shape as is & I would think it has too much personal history as is.
Just my opinion & why I don't restore my GT despite it's haggard (to some) appearance.
I also like the decals on yours. I don't see that variaton on many GTs. Most 85 seem to have the "Pro" in the script typestyle we all know. Whereas yours have "Pro" in a more block-stlye font.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer
WDS, I'll definitely take that into consideration. Actually, the only thing holding me back from restoring her are the decals. You're right, it seems almost impossible to locate them. Well, I guess this is how she's going to stay.
Thanks for the comments guys!!!

Thanks mt trickfox. All of my bikes with the exception of my rider are well kept. Parts for these things are so hard to come by or too expensive. The pool tires alone were pretty dirty when I picked them up from a friend locally. Luckily, they didn't have any dry rotting on them. I noticed that you have a Dyno comp. I have one just like it, but chrome. Will you be completing the your build???

Yeah, I've decided to leave her as is. I've switched out the tires for black freestyle tires and actually put the era correct seat on her now. Shel still rocks either way.
---Thanks!!!---

Killer bike - I'm working on the same one now. UltraHive has the block GT decals - they're the Japan made frame deacals.

Yeah, I still got her with me Bro! Never letting this one go. I'm so glad my mom kept it in her garage to save for me. She was curious as to why all of a sudden I wanted it back after all these years. Then she laughed and said, "You're probably bored and have nothing to do."
