Things I've learned on the site..

Ok, so I've been a member for over a year and never really posted up before. I also club race with CCS/ASRA, so with these 2 hobbies, a house, job, etc, I've mostly just bought items here and occasionally lurked. Well, it's the new year, and I have tomorrow off, so I plan on finally posting up a few of my bikes. I thought I might also share a few of the things I've learned here in the meantime (it's obvious I'm an old school guy).

-Survivor parts in gold, particularly chainrings, are difficult to come by.

-As soon as you buy a part you've been searching for for 6 months, 3 others just like it also come up for sale.

-If you really want something, buy it RIGHT THEN.

-Hutches are very polarizing.

-The truth regarding Redline serial numbers is out there, somewhere, I'm certainly hoping.

-The dibs phenomenon.

-Our currency system should be based on MX1000 brakes.

-Some of the members have a truly impressive breadth of knowledge and/or experience.

-Some of the members are funny guys.

-BMX dreams can come true.

-Parts quickly accumulate.

-Ask questions on the big purchases.

-This place is a big black hole which feeds upon massive amounts of time and money.

-I forgot about a lot more bikes than I remembered.

-Powerlites are fairly rare birds compared to my recollection.

-Every time I think I absolutely don't need another bike, I find a valid, rational reason proving me absolutely incorrect.

-Christmas isn't just for kids afterall.

-People own bikes they never ever ride.

-Everyone hates Ebay, Paypal only slightly less so.

-If you really want something, a Pro Membership/ad in WTB is the easiest way to get it pending actual availability.

-Those Aussies are hard core.

-Packing and shipping can be fun, inventive expressions of artistic ability and creativity.

-The meaning of BITD, GLWS, og, etc and various abbreviations and mutilations of seemingly innocent and undeserving terms and names.

Ok, I'm sure there are more, but I'm currently drawing a blank. What else can you guys teach me/remind me of? Tomorrow, I'm posting up some bikes, including my '80 Mongoose that I've owned from new, and how it brought me/I came back to BMX.

Edit: I can't believe I didn't proofread this before posting, and the only thing I misspelled was the word "Site" in the title. I hate misspells.

-You can't edit post titles on this site either.

Old school. I don't see many of the ones I remember, ie, pre 1982 or so..

Re: Things I've learned on the site..

Excellent list. The one thing I'll ad is this: the time between a for sale posting and DIBS is often measured in milliseconds. lol quite a feeding frenzy at times.

Re: Things I've learned on the site..

I learned that it is not smart to make the for sale section your "favorite" to get into the site. Catchall or the home page is much safer. Resisting constantly checking the FS section is good for your financial well being. Clearly this is nearly impossible and I am incapable of breaking the habit but I learned it none the less.

I agree with most of what you wrote.

I learned that Hutch is god around here...but not in my books. Any Hutch I come across will be put up for sale wink

PK Loop is my god big_smile

Trickstars are like saints; Redline RL20 IIs are goddesses; Nomuras are ultra rare and can fetch a lot albeit I don't care for them; JMCs are another religion.

If people are going to use the term "anal", they should specify whether they mean anal retentive or anal expulsive.  For all other meanings, refer to either itsdug or Iceman for guidance.
