1976 DG Racer 2

1976 DG Racer 2 Survivor

I bought this here on the museum.  I thought it might be a 76 based on the interupted gusset welds but the seller could not find the serial number so I was taking a chance.  When I got the bike I took a little paint off where the serial number should be and low and behold, it was a 76.  I like to keep survivor bikes at I find them but the finish on this is pretty far gone so it may be off to the power coater soon.  I love the Ashtabula forks and stem.  I think the only tube forks available at that time were Redlines, so the Ashtabulas are totally era correct.  Araya rims with big guage spokes.  Race Inc bars.  I think this bike will look great next to my 75 goose which also has Ashtabula forks.

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

Everything I have read leads me to believe this is a Racer 3 not a 2.  According to the catalogs, the 2 was yellow and the 3 was black, red or blue.  I will weigh the frame as well.  That should make it official one way or the other.

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

I have a bike that's nearly identical.  Rescued it from mom's attic after 25 years.  It was my late brother's and purchased new in Hollywood FL in the mid to late 70s.  It's currently at my LBS getting serviced.  I'll post the serial # when I get it back.  I'm new to this site... How do I post a picture on here?

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

I weighed the frame and it was under 4 lbs slightly.  Off to the powder coater.

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

I reweighed the frame after powder on a shipping scale.  4lbs 2oz.  Looks like it is a DG Racer 2 after all.  Don't know why it was blue but it is yellow now.

Pics today!  I think a mod has to approve the edits though.  I posted a couple in the DG thread.  Check em out.

No editing, just delete old and add the new.

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

You can do what you want with the 4 pics. You can also add before and after pics in the thread. Whatever floats your boat.

Re: 1976 DG Racer 2

That would look way cool if you could get a black vinyl DG sticker in the gussett !

The 70's... We had no knee pads, no over protective soccer moms, no mini vans, if you messed up it was actually your own fault, and we rocked out to 8 tracks, cassettes and vinyl.  THAT'S HOW WE ROLLED!

Great bike.  Thanks for sharing!

Never liked Starsky and HUTCH.  Not a big Maverick and GOOSE fan.  I always like MAGNUM.  He drove a sweet Ferrari and picked up hot chicks with ease.  THATS WHY I'M AN MCS GUY!

Just saw this looking around. Beautiful bike. Owned a few myself as a kid. Old post, still have it?
