Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
the spindle is too thick to go through the slot/dropout. i would have to spread the forks apart about 1.5 inches to get it off.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
yeah no slots. if it's threaded all the way through, i can basically unscrew it. i tried forcing it out once with no luck, and haven't given it much attention since. one of these days...

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
I had one of those I bought for $15 in '86. Sold it in '91 for $50. It was in pristine order and makes me sick to think about it. dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.
Good Luck with the wheel. That's what they make cutters for.

Does this have CR-mo stamped in the drop outs?or 500?,i think its from 84-85,i know the gauge of tubing is thicker than a large gusset streak, but never knew the name of the model with CR-MO stamped in it,Can any one enlighten us,with a full model range for the year,on these diamond backs?would be very handy,.TA,STA.

sta, the dropouts are stamped cromo, and these are the original decals, but all they say is diamondback II. i guest on the year from the s/n. it's on the bottom bracket and reads f3125536
if anyone can ID this 100%, let me know

rich, it's not a rust problem. here's a graphic to give you guys an idea. someday i will probably just cut it. as you can see from my drawing, the bolt won't fit through the slot

F3 is 83,never known these models to be from that date, check see if the welding for the dropouts is on both sides,if tacked on the inside, then this frame could be the factory prototype for the 84 retail range,AS ridden by LOUIS MEARS,an 11 year old,old school,BRITISH WORLD champ, who'se winning race was in HOLLAND,82-83.bla bla bla bla bla!No Dis,ithink your frame is an early 500 pacer. THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
hey skinny, i was looking at it, chances are you can lock 2 nuts together on one side of the axle, and unscrew the whole axle from the wheel itself. i cant think of any other way they could have gotten it on. just get a thin wrench and loosen the bearing reatining bolts first and keep those wrenches in place while doing so.
when i see a mongoose at walmart, i try and picture the metal being used to make something more useful, like a frying pan, or maybe some clothes hangers...oh well...its out of my hands.
my bikes are tri-moly. that means i have 3 times more chromo than you..haha

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
thanks lovethegoose. i was thinking i would try to unscrew it, but locking 2 nuts together should make it easy. it only off by a little. i think they (two brothers) forced it on.
hey sta, i didn't realy know what this was. do you have any more info on 500 pacers?

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
Get in there with a cut off wheel or hack saw and cut the axles. If the forks are worth something screw the axles.
Ride it like you stole it!

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Super Streak
someday i'll spend some time on this.
ok, the rear drops are welded from end to end, inside and out. they're both stamped cromo. the TT is 18 1/2 inches. nothing in the 84 catalog says DIAMONDBACKII on the decal.
