Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

I went to get my car out of storage today. I park it in a big shed/garage here in my town. While I was waiting for the owner to come back with the other set of keys I decided to walk around a bit. A few stalls over I seen a old Model T and a 4th gen Camaro in the corner. As I walked towards the back something caught my eye.

I pulled it out and snapped these quick pics (I knew he wouldn’t get mad). I asked him if he wanted to make more room in his garage I could take this off his hands. He laughed and said it’s his sons and he doesn’t want to sell it. Was his childhood bike. Ok fair enough but I told him to call me if he ever wants to sell it. What I like about this bike specifically is the pad set. Harpers is our local bike shop (I’ve talked about them before and have posted pics from their shop) and they’ve been in business for over 50 years and are still going strong. They are no longer known as Harpers Schwinn but bitd that’s all it was.  I’ve never seen a Harpers pad set before. Didn’t even know they made them. I sent the pics to the sons owner.  Just thought you Schwinn guys and gals would like the pics. I don’t even know what year it is. I’m not to versed in reading those numbers on these early bikes. Like we say around here “they’re still around hiding in garages!!”

Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

Growing up, this was Lake Shore Schwinn (now Lake Shore Bicycles) the shop i drooled over bikes, from Sting-Ray Scrambles, my 1st love, a Mathews Monoshock, and on. I still have a box with the old catalogs stored somewhere. When I 1st started going there, the Robinsons owned it, then the Fetzers (who still own it, but have 3 prospective buyers for the business and property).

My 13 year olds SX1000 24”. This was his Christmas gift as he wanted a cruiser. I have to say it’s been holding up well so far with the exception of the cranks.

I still have the original tires and pedals but switched them out so the Sunday evening neighborhood rides would be more enjoyable...
