Just picked this up today. Stoked is an understatement. 1976 Scrambler Competition. As built back in the day. First gen ARAYA 7B rims. Sunshine front hub. Shimano rear with coaster brake.  Team Schwinn Maximizer tires. Weinmann brakes. Rampar seat. 190 Ashtabula crank. Schwinn stem and bars. I’m new to Schwinn, but from the little research I’ve done, this was the predecessor to what became the Sting. Chromoly, hand brazed, built, etc. Please, share more info if you have it.

I just had to have it! Will get a light cleaning and that’s it.

Coworker brought this in to work other day.  Got to cleaning it up and pulling it apart. Only thing froze was the headset.       Dug around the vault and built up a ridable bike. Will keep eye out for some better wheels. http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/30438/ddfb2ecf-ce14-4348-8961-6928d28e46925d20a81cd2.jpeg

Rubbing compound is all.  It’s actually pretty rough.  Looks better in the pictures. Id consider a repaint mainly bc the lettering is bad.  For now though, it’s going hang out in the cave

Nice King! Color is nice - digging the redline stem too!

Needs: 79 or 80 nos/mint Chestnut brown SX-100 or SX-500 Scrambler frame - Single Gusset, smooth brazing, made in Chi-town not Taiwan.

Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

Thought I had got lucky and found a cheap Stingray three miles from my house.  Turned out to be a 1980 Schwinn Stingray II.  I left it, but only because I need more information.  Is the Sting-Ray II a smaller frame?  I know the bars and the seat looks a bit smaller, but I was just going from memory.  It was the Emerald Green/Golden Yellow trim or as my girlfriend referred to it as the John Deere bike. lol

I keep buying and selling, so I guess I wasn't happy with the four I had left.

I believe this is a rebadge of the Stingray Junior. If so frame is different, a bit smaller but has 20" wheels. Also, notice the smaller cranks and lucky 7 sprocket.

I believe that is what I had read when researching.  Here is the picture from his post and one of an unknown bike.

My 62 typhoon I recently finished up.  Best riding bike (most comfortable) I think I've ever had.

Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

Wish I could find a 98-00 Hydramatic had an army green version for years until it got jacked after the only time in history I left it outside during the night been looking for a complete since but no luck, I've found a couple powermatics or prostocks but not the same a powermatic is essentially the dressed down version.

Anyone have a Schwinn Hydramatic 98-00 for sale had one years ago but was stolen and never found another was my childhood/teen bike or an old school freestyle bike in pink ex. Gt freestyle in Dayglo Pink even just an extra frame Vertigo, or performer is also fine looking to build my first custom, wife also wants a pink bike no particular model in mind pm me with what ya got.
