Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

Yeah, the front fork is actually a flatland fork. If you look at the original pics they had a chrome fork with it, so I suspect they planned on making/using a lightweight race fork, but as it would be the only frame they sold it with it was likely cheaper in the long run to use the fork from the Levin 1000 frame which was a similar last gasp at a quality flatland/vert frame. The Levin's are prolly even more rare becasue at least with the Sting you had the old name and that pretty paint to get you by- what kid wanted to spend his life convincing people that his Levin 1000 was actually a good bike and not the Walmart crap his little brother was riding?

The house I got it from was doing some spring cleaning .  I seen the bike outside the garage and stopped and asked about it .  The lady just wanted it gone.  I had 5 bucks on me so I gave her that said thanks and hit the road.  Saved from being throw in her curb side junk pile.  Saved the bike and made my day .  Win win in my book

Re: Lets see those SCHWINNS...Bikes/parts/ect

Fake. The Olds is a 1969- Skip was still drag racing in those days and hadn't created the Mongoose bicycle company yet let alone invented Motomags, the term BMX didn't really hit the common parlance until the early 1970's to be popular enough for a commemorative edition, Schwinn bean counters were afraid of getting involved until their tepid entry into the market in 1975 with the Scrambler, and lastly, that bike isn't even a Schwinn... or rather it's a Chinese Schwinn frame. Look at the shape of the drops and bubble gum welds at the tubes. A Schwinn in 1969 was still an electro-forged frame. It may be that Holley (who owns Hurst these days) had a few of these made for a promotion or something, but it would have been within the lat few years, not way back when.

That said, it would be cool if someone built up a tribute SC/Rrambler someday...
