Re: GT Serial number decoding

ok i have two GT speed series i think? the boxier race frame. one came complete and the forks say 1998 on them and the serial # is on the bottom bracket. its AN8050030 and i cant tell what the last # is because its is was welded over. the other one looks a little newer and the serial # is on the inside of the left drop out i believe. and its looks like yours with the e XL on the end. are the XL's 20.75 or 21 inch top tubes? is one made in america and one made overseas?

someone hook me up with some info

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Just to complicate matters....

i have 5K1503 followed by the "baseball" stamp.

It doesnt seem to fit the previous formats, but i assume it was made in Kensis? (which is where, by the way?)

Its a pro performer and it was sold as an 85 version, so i assume perhaps the first 5 indicates that, and 1503 is the number it rolled of the line?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

M

aslo as a final question, i really need some forks for it. they should have 4 holes on the dropouts? and any idea of shops that may have them...ebay/formus have proved barren for weeks...

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Ok, I know I saw it on here somewhere, I have an '83 Nora Cup. I figured out the serial number as being mfg in 10/83. Near the front of the dropout there is a 4 stamped. I thought I read that means it is a Pro Long. The top tube measures 18.5" from the center of the headset to the center of the seat post. Is it a Pro Long or am I wrong? If I;'m wrong, what is it?

Also, I need a decent set of rims and tires, GT bars and a GT laid back seatpost for it. I want to ride and enjoy it, not over restore it. Any help would be great!

My 85 Pro Series has the 4 stamped into it.  It is not a "long".  The long will have an L4 stamped I believe...  Mine is 18.5 center to center.  The long would be 19.5".

Re: GT Serial number decoding

I'm looking at buying a GT Interceptor with seemingly all GT parts on it w/serial number YC94047966.  What am I looking at in terms of year and build month on this one before I lay down money for it?  I can't figure out this coding system º__o

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Hi I have a dyno air, and just wondering if anyone can help me figure out its year of birth, I am thinking its the 1993.  I am not sure just been comparing it to other bikes, and if anyone can help me find out its value that would be great!!!

i'm 99% sure that the first number is the year, so YC4H3001 = 1994

Re: GT Serial number decoding

I just dug my GT outta my basement after 10 yrs. and want to do a resto.  The serial is 07920208 with an I stamped under it.  Pretty sure its an Interceptor after reading all the posts but I just wanna confirm it.

I have a similar Dyno VFR 24" cruiser with GE2002 on one side of the bb and on the other S1GT48984

what is the significance of the GE2001 and GE2002 on these bikes.....
