Cheap Bike Stands from PVC

I made some cheap stands from PVC.  I know they're not as pretty as the ones at the LBS, but you can make one for about 4 bucks.

Here's what  I used

6 feet of 3/4" PVC - That I cleaned with acetone to get the printing off
4 Tee fittings
8 90 Degree fitting

I didn't glue any of the joints together due to the complex layout.  I don't think you could get all the pieces together and keep it flat if you glued them.

I might try to paint one if I get a chance.

You may need to modify it a bit if you have a rim with a very narrow tire.

Enjoy

Re: Cheap Bike Stands from PVC

Looks really nice!!
Can you hook them together for more bikes?
howabout some general lengths and stuff?.
Great innovation I think!!

Re: Cheap Bike Stands from PVC

I would think you could hook them together without a problem.

The cut list for the PVC is
4@ 9.25 inches  - Base frame and pieces that are just under axel
6@ 2 inches - All the parts to connect the tees and elbows.
4 @ 5.25 inches  - The uprights off the tees

sixthward, i saw a guy out at the Grands in Tulsa that had a set up like yours only he had maybe 15 of them linked together. it looked like the bike racks at school with all the bikes lined up. i'm going to make a few of these for myself. thanx for posting.

These are great... Why didn't I think of that!!!  I even have an engineering degree!  All I got from my education is student loans...  Anyway, I made some out of scrap 2x4's but the PVC's are much sweeter.  I am definately going to build some of these.  Thanks for the information.

Re: Cheap Bike Stands from PVC

What's going on with all the Legos on the floor? you building the Deathstar next or what??  smile
Maybe you should build a PVC stand for that snowboard also and turn your pad into a big tube filled jungle.... paint them would be cool also to match each bike.... he could be a millionare by summer with these things, start selling kits on ebay with precut lengths in a bag for 9.99 all day long....

Re: Cheap Bike Stands from PVC

Badda BING!! Jeez .. that was so easy it was silly I havent done them before. 10 minutes for 2, and for reference .. with the measurements given here, they fit my 20" and my 8 year olds 1 1/8 wide tire .. and they hold up just great.

Thanks for the tip man!!
