1986 Mongoose FS-1

A redo of my first freestyle bike!

I had this as a kid, and of course grew out of it and lost interest when I got older. At 19, a guy I worked with said his son got his bike stolen, so I gave him my FS-1 (which was mint) because he needed more than I did......Years go by and I get the "BMX BUG" and decide I need to find an FS-1. I got it off ebay and it arrived beat to hell. Mags cracked, paint chipped, rusty, a hurtin' unit to say the least. Fresh powder, rims off my decade, and a few new parts! If anyone can find the sticker set please let me know!

Very Nice Mongoose !

You might want to think about getting a longer seat post....

Re: 1986 Mongoose FS-1

Thanks Chromey- I usually stick to the really long straight posts, and take the seat off when I ride....naked. Actually its the first bike i had powdered and its so damn thick it wont go down any further. I learned many lessons about powdering bikes from this. Now my powder guy knows to keep it thin in places.

Re: 1986 Mongoose FS-1

The FS-1 was the first real bike I got as a kid.
Still trying to track one down but its still out of my reach...

Got a question for you - What kind of seatpost clamp is that?

Thanks,
Craig

its an odyssey fork stander that I thought looked pretty cool on there. the blue was so close. i did the same thing on my decade.

Re: 1986 Mongoose FS-1

I like that.
Never seen a fork stander as a seat post clamp. Looks great.

Re: 1986 Mongoose FS-1

thanks man. at first i couldnt figure out how to get it on the fork over the dropouts and then noticed it fit perfect as a seat clamp. so if you come across one missing it's partner, don't despair. just give it new life as a seat clamp

Very nice. Keep the jumbo sized seat post, you never know when the Hunchback of Notre Dame will need to take it for a spin.

Re: 1986 Mongoose FS-1

The FS-1 was also my first  childhood bike. My seven year old asked me "dad what was your first bike?" the BMX BUG got me..I made it a mission to find a FS-1.. I was able to find it on ebay and just got it. This will be a great father son project. Let the restoration begin!!!!
