1985 Mongoose Californian
1985 Mongoose Californian
Motomag-style '85 Cali
This bike was built for my older brother, who got me into BMX in the first place. I bought the frame/fork on eBay, and it came with the following original parts:
-SR Sakae stem
-Pro Class chainwheel
-SR Cosmo-Lite crank
-SR Pedals
-Laidback seat post with Dia Compe MX clamp
The parts I added were:
-Motomag II wheels with ACS Freecoaster rear hub
-Kenda dirt tires
-KMC chain
-Unknown chrome V-Bars
-Repop Mongoose grips
-Odyssey 1999 front brake and lever
-Viscount padded seat
-Black vinyl pads (I realize the GTX frame pad is incorrect, but it was all I could find and it matches so it'll have to do.)
2019 update:
I added pictures 1 through 4 to show the updates that my brother has made:
-Fat street tires
-Bell mountain/road bike style seat
-Blue KMC chain
-Rear Odyssey 1999 brake and lever to match the front

Thanks! I realize the Motomag II's aren't exactly "era correct" by definition, but this bike was a gift for my brother and the Motomag II's were the main requirement I was pretty surprised when I saw this new toy in the store the other day. You would almost think they stole my idea!! I just had to buy it.

and the packaging too!
Saved as a fave!
I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets).
Thanks

Re: 1985 Mongoose Californian
Happy 4th of July weekend to all!
I visited my brother in San Antonio this holiday and caught some updated pictures of this Mongoose that I built for him back in 2011. He's made some changes to the parts (see pics 1-4)...most notably the fat tires which I personally think look awesome!! I rode it around and had a blast...just a fun all-around bike. I'm glad he made some tweaks to his preferences....that shows me he's still passionate about BMX after all these years.
