Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

Hey guys.I got to admit I have had this Oxalic bath treatment in my head for a while-and since Sydney Australia is in total lockdown for another 4 weeks I thought now is the time to gather all the bits and pieces and get to it.My 2000 Hoffman Deebo sat in my mums garage for 10 years at least and was a little dusty, but in perfect condition.Well I was shocked when I went to pick it up and the rust was soo bad!!Heres some before photos so you can see what I’m dealing with..The goal is to just get it looking shiny again, and I think it’s time to sell it on to someone else who will enjoy it.https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/263047/77c6db17-e5d8-4142-828c-a7ad1f1b77c66105dbbb92.jpeg

As you can see it’s in the bath right now. It’s been soaking for 19 hrs but I can tell the frame needs some more time..I’ll be back with the results.I’m excited.Thankyou CMB for this sticky.inspires us to get out there and beautify our crap looking chrome bikes..👍

Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

Okay ladies and gentlemen…the frame was in there for a total of 22hrs..rest of the bits including wheel nuts adjusters and forks 19 hrs-bars seat pole for 15-16hrs and the results are to be seen to be believed!!!I knew some spots where the chrome would have been a bit light aren’t perfect-but here’s some (out of bath)pics.next stage is to use all of my polishing compounds-0000 steel wool-metal polishes etc and I’ll show the finals..this process was easier than I thought and I wore gloves and had plenty of fresh water at hand to rid the parts of the yellow build-up that CMB warned us about!overall a great experience.nothing better than getting good advice that ACTUALLY WORKS!!Thanks a bunch .https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/263047/ca8980ca-f528-4ce1-830e-b74b84340ec9610627701e.jpeg

Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

Nicely done! It’s amazing how chrome will still rust when stored inside . Wax polishing a frame and storing it it might help some.
Your f/f look amazing now!!
Thanks for sharing!

Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

Amazing post! with a friend of mine we did this to a Robinson frame that he just bought, maybe identical to yours. Excellent results. I’m planning to do this to an 85 GT frame I have that seems to be in good condition sonInsave the OG chrome. Thank you for a thoroughly explanatory post!

Hi guys, would citric bath damage anodized rims? The spokes on the wheels are rusty, can I just put the whole wheel in the bath? What will happen to the anodized rim? Thank you guys!
