Looking good. Are you working on some pro class cranks with those caps?

Re: Mongoose PRO CLASS ONLY thread anyone?

Just sharing a little bit of knowledge that I picked up recently.  In the, “Hey~Day”..
..of BMX Products/Mongoose...they were producing/completing “500” F/F’s a day.  All USA built bikes were made in Moorpark/Chatsworth CA.  If your serial number reads anything like this...

K3001119

That means your frame was built in November of 1983...it was the 1,119 frame welded/completed in that month.  Which means frame # K3001120 may have been a Pro Class, Supergoose...etc.

Amazing #’s back then.

Just sharing.

All the best.

Re: Mongoose PRO CLASS ONLY thread anyone?

Tom, does your 82 has round or oval holes at the brake bridge?

This one has all round...later ‘82 model.  My other ‘82 has the oval holes on each side of the brake hole.

I have actually been talking with someone who made all these bikes along with 29 other welders...he had no explanation for the differences in the brake bridges..?

Re: Mongoose PRO CLASS ONLY thread anyone?

For decades I've asked, searched and read, also trying to figure out why, and so far I've found nothing, leaving me to think that there's absolute no explanation about the difference between them.  I guess it was a matter of the stock material they had on hand.

Thanks Tom!!!

Thanks Tom!!!

No problem!  I wondered myself for years also...if this gentleman didn’t know then no one would.  He also told that the candy blue & red Teams were the chrome Teams that didn’t make the cut..!!!  The welds needed to be perfect for the chrome...so any red & blues out there did not have as good welds as the chromes.  They didn’t waste anything.  Once I get all the info documented I will share in these threads.

All the best.

Re: Mongoose PRO CLASS ONLY thread anyone?

Great information Tom!  J2 serials seem to be the most common.  I also have an un-built Smoked Pc minus the forks.  Unfortunately someone tried polishing some of the black nickel off.  Spotless underneath and hasn’t seen a bolt but will need to be sorted.  I will get around to it one day.  I know a guy over here in the UK that had a NOS one, wrapped and boxed.  That was J2 also.  Got an 83 that has had all the black taken off and was spray bombed at one point.  Luckily the nickel underneath was in pretty good nick so I polished it to something respectable. That also will need some work.  Looks nice against its cousin.  84 Anniversary.
