Re: *Official old school skateboard thread*

Action Sports was the company. My first skateboard was an Action Sports. I bought it as a complete from a bike shop for $80. Action Sports was between department store and skate shop. Most boards were 10X30 in this era. 9.25" seems skinny for that day and age.

The Rob Maggi story gets more interesting...did his Family own the company?....never seen one...or remember seeing him in a pic, other than these adds, in any skate magazine

Re: *Official old school skateboard thread*

My first skateboard was an action sports kamikaze back in 84-85 (pictured in the ad above). They were shit, but as a little kid, I didn’t know any better. Wouldn’t get my first pro board until 86-87. That skateboard launched my lifelong love for skateboarding.

Cool bit of history. Thanks for sharing.

Crazy, mine was the Night Rider in the above ad, but a different colorway, and had green and blue dual colored wheels.

Back in the 70s, I got one like this.https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/23382/img_20201028_165118_5675f99da4a66.jpg
This company pioneered urethane wheels and was local. https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/23382/img_20201028_164833_3135f99daa5bc.jpg

Very cool..my Dad had a 16mm movie projector when I was a kid and he was able
to get a couple of the 70’s skateboard films when we were kids..I Remember watching them with my friends and going out to ride as soon as they were done...hadn’t seen tricks done other than pics in magazines..seeing them “live” was life changing..especially Tony’s air..

Re: *Official old school skateboard thread*

My first skateboard..an older kid in my hood had a G&S with Gullwings and OJ’s...I wanted one sooo bad..my Grandpa looked at it and said I can make ya something like that.he took some measurements and he whipped this up in a day..I built it up with acs trucks and OJ’s..I was very proud of it and rode the wheels off it..not sure why I put the Alva on there...hey I was a kid in the 70’s..and I really lusted for that first Alva bird...but I’ve kept this board my entire life..

Re: *Official old school skateboard thread*

I’ve decided to part with my Thrasher, Transworld, Poweredge collection..86-early 90’s..about a 4 foot pile of magazines..is there a place to sell them on this site?

I will keep my 70’s Skateboarders aka the Bible..they gave me way too much enjoyment as a kid..between Warren Bolsters photos and Craig’s story’s can’t part with em..
