Re: 1997 Huffy MJ12
Neat bike, and Jimmy is a cool guy for sure..
Any of you know what MJ-12 stands for?
The Majestic 12, above top secret group that was made to deal with Alien threat..
Majestic 12 (also known as Majestic Twelve, Majic 12, Majestic Trust, M12, MJ 12, MJ XII, Majority 12 or Mars-Jupiter 12) is the code name of a secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, formed in 1947 by an executive order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman. The purpose of the committee was to investigate UFO activity in the aftermath of the Roswell incident—the confirmed crash of the alien spaceship near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. The Majestic 12 is an important part of an ongoing government cover up of UFO information.

Re: 1997 Huffy MJ12
Hey Kev, I'd say it looks like you have a MJ12 as well. Pretty much every detail matches mine.
Only one thing differs, yours has an extra gusset under the downtube that mine does not have. I would'nt say that does not make yours a MJ-12 though. It wouldn't surprise me if later in the run they added the gusset, or if those that went to the Aussie market had them.
I measured my top tube & got a length of 20.5 center to center. When I get home tonight I'll check the s/n to see if there may be any further marks to ID it as a MJ-12.
Cool to see another, it seems to be a hard to find frame.

Re: 1997 Huffy MJ12
Yerr Bill u seem to be on the money my mate Steve picked up exactly that feature of difference..the shorter headstock caused by the gussett underneath..but all other features seem identical..its not uncommon for other markets to change some specs as per safety and country of delivery warranty etc....if its not a gen 1 or a Levan spec bike i cant whinge mate..I bought a Powerlite midschooler from another collector my mate Roy and he threw this in and another very oldschool small tube frame and forks with an arrowhead in its gussett..may be like a Tange Crossrider or the like and all this as a goodwill gesture for some parts he was seeking..saying to me"Its too new school for my(his) collection..OHH HOW UNLUCKY AM I.... ..im just happy it appears to be not your garden variety WallyMart one...and is a close vision to your spec bike and a nice high end American Signiature Huffy..theyre not all Rubbish and we dont have a lot of the old school HUFFY stuff here..but lots of Chinaman Walmart..as the Worldwide Huffy bikes come into all the "Mart stores" ..and i like this one because after seeing your posting..im pretty sure its not......now to find a Primus and a Stu..hahahaha i dont want much do i..cheers for the info mate best rgds Kev.

Re: 1997 Huffy MJ12
On my BB shell I have a 10 digit s/n starting with ACL. Beneath that there is also a "DJ2" stamped. I also have a sticker on the DT near the BB: MODEL#23627.
Don't know if that helps.
The 97 MJ-12, while not a dept store bike still is more entry level/mid range. The frame isn't 100% chromoly. Just the Mainframe. Frame only sold for around $150.
Still pretty dang cool in my book though.

Re: 1997 Huffy MJ12
Ah yeah, the B-One was the full high-tensile steel model below the MJ-12. If I remember correctly you could get the whole bike for as much as the MJ-12 frame. Still a cool frame for sure. I still really want another MJ-12 frame...

Thanks! Hope you don't mind I took off the Huffy stickers from the downtube... I wanted it to look like the one I rode back in the day.
