Powdercoaters & painters: Post your contacts

I'm hoping to create a thread here that will turn into a "sticky."  The same way a thread was made for chroming, chime in & tell everyone who does your powder & paint work so we can all have it on one thread.  We all know Chip @ C4 is awesome, & Lou knows all about GT paint codes.

Here's where I go:

Gary Lamb
Extreme Powdercoating
(703) 339-8233 - Office
(571) 237-9420 - Cell
extremepowdercoating@hotmail.com

Prices depend on the project.  Here are some of the basic rates (includes all stripping, cleaning & prep work):

$90 - frame
$25 - fork
$25 - handlebars
$30 - sprocket

Gary did an exact powder match for my 1985 Skyway Street Beat (soon to be submitted to the Museum):

he painted 3 coats and tripple clear coat, also baked it extra long in the paint booth to make sure it was extra hard. the paint job is flawless and as good if not better then a factory paint job on a car. absolutly flawless!

Re: Powdercoaters & painters: Post your contacts

I appreciate kind words, but I can also appreciate the collectors who need to save a few bucks any way they can. The best advice I can give is to make sure your project is stripped in a non-aggresive (sometimes time consuming) manner. Any reputable shop should be able to take a close to bare metal frame and return it coated without any structural damage, and sometimes a show quality finish. But it really hurts me to see some frames that are sandblasted almost beyond repair, or even warped from excessive heat. If it's a frame you care about, make sure your shop cares about it as well, and maybe even do some of the prep yourself if you can. I'm always available to answere any questions or provide help to anyone on thier project even if I'm not doing the work, just ask. I may even be able to provide the custom color you need. I'm a fellow BMX collector at heart.

I second, third, and fourth the motion for Chip at C4.

I've got work being done by him right now, and his help with suggestions and expertise have made it a very pleasurable experience. His gallery is a testament to his attention to detail, and his reputation is stellar.

I already know I'll deal with him again will recommend his services at any opportunity. (This is not a paid advertisement. Honest) smile

Definitely Chip at C4!

I'm with Brian P, I'm proud to have 2 of my bikes in Chip's gallery, the Hazard Yellow RL20 & RL20II.  In fact this first picture I posted is the one in Chip's gallery.

I do all my own paint work also, I've been doing it now for about eight years. Doin all your own stuff is a little harder than sending it out to get powered/painted (which god only knows I should) but the end result is satisfying because only you know the hard work you put into it.

Re: Powdercoaters & painters: Post your contacts

I have so many colors I forget what I have. lol. Everything is done in PPG. Most of the paint jobs are single stage. Day Glows and multi colors (2 or mre colors on a frame) are base clear. The biggest problem I have is the turn around time. It could take from a week to months. I don`t paint bikes for a living so it`s done during free time during work thats how I can keep my prices cheap. The busier I am at work the slower it is for me to get he bikes done.
I can`t offer welding but dings and dents are fixxed at no charge unless theres alot of them.
The more I paint for you, the more you`ll get for less money. If you strip it 100% so all I have to do is paint only, the price could be anywhere from 30-50% off regular price. I can do one off colors for that special custom look. I did a Trick Star in black metallic, we called it the black pearl......it had a goldish tint to it. Check out the pic of the threadless unstamped nondrilled LG.
Prices..........
1 color package (f/f, bars, post).....$100. If you have one more fork, or bars, or post I`ll spray it free but it goes the same color as the rest.
Day Glow package (f/f, bars, post, and stem-white only).....$150. If you don`t need the stem done the price stay the same.
Multi colors.....$150 1 color and $25 for each additional color. These are done in a base coat clear coat.
If you need stuff painted but not as a package, the prices are judges by what color and whats getting done.
Don`t forget my polishing........$10 is the bottom price which includes anything the size of a seatclamp to a gear. I polished so many Hutch clamps for $10 each and you see that they sell for after that. OMG!!

Re: Powdercoaters & painters: Post your contacts

Also, you pay all the shipping. The price could be higher going back to you because of more packaging material. There is no shortage of that when it comes to packaging, just ask a few that delt with me.
Everything goes into the bead blaster and air sanded too for a complete raw metal start. It`s all about the prep. Dropouts washer marks get smooth but if there are too deep I`ll do the best I can. Sometimes I can fill with another coat of paint on them to fill it but don`t worry, the welds and serial numbers are safe.
And last but not least, I do trade out paint jobs for stuff. Last year I did 8 paint jobs for 8 GT Performers f/f.

I had my Skyway frame, fork, bars, and some small parts painted By Eric Pride (Ohioguy31) at...

Prides Body Shop
Belpre, Oh
740-423-8223

Paid $150.00 shipped for the work. Sent him all parts FULLY STRIPPED and ready to prep n paint.
May be more depending on condition. He was great to deal with and was ultra fast both on communication and turnaround.
