Re: Slingshot Project Done....Ready for Bellflower and Rockford?

Mighty Fine!

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Feetos, are you sure they started in '83 and not earlier? I thought I remembered seeing them at my local track in '80 or '81.

1980 Mark Groendal designs the first prototype BMX Slingshot.

1981 Mark Groendal applies for his first patent: Flexible Bicycle.

1982 Greendale Bicycle Co. founded by brothers Mark and Joel Groendal in Wyoming, Michigan. The concept was to use a flexible plate, which was replaceable, for a hinge. This hinge had to possess physical properties that allowed a large amount of elastic strain and endure a range of input frequencies and limit lateral strain. Several prototypes were made and tested using sections of skis for flex plates and heavy gage steel tubing for elemental stiffness and strength.

1983 First Sling Shot production frames built.  I believe most frames stayed in MidWest.

1985 in California as a 15X, I raced against someone on one.  I fell in love with the bike then.

If it was yours, what was the original color and do you have any photos you can post?

Bullseye in "Burbank" was a pioneer in old school parts.

1974-75 -First prototype 2 piece  Chromoly steel TIG welded hollow heat treated cranks are manufactured and tested by Roger himself.

1975-76- Bullseye releases the "hurricane" 2 piece multi-use crank set for public purchase.

77-80- Sealed roller brackets, Bottom brackets, Hubs and pulleys, cranks and chain rings manufactured and released.

1980- Bullseye Sealed bearing BMX pedals released.

The cranks on the bike I purschased in 83, however the crank arm kept coming loose during racing.  My brother modified the crank by welding a threaded cap inside the bottom bracket shaft.  Bullseye itself made the same modification the next year.  My brother could have also got the idea from Bullseye and made himself look good.  The seat post I know was around in 84 because I used to race on one, because those fluted aluminum kept breaking on me.

Everything is era correct for 85 which was when the frame was produced.

Re: Slingshot Project Done....Ready for Bellflower and Rockford?

Wicked build. If there is one bike that I am dying to ride its a slingshot. Don't you wonder how that hinged frame with limit cables and springs felt while pedaling?
I sure as hell do.

Sorry if it sounded like the red one was once mine, it wasn't. Mine was 1/2 red, 1/2 black. I'll try to find a pic.

I really like the black frame, I already have a couple red bikes and I almost got the frame repainted.  Was yours an 83 as listed, I was told the cruisers were 85 only.
