How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

If you'd like to contribute to the Museum, you first need to register a user account. There is a "Register" link in the top of every Forums page, as well as in the LOGIN box at your left. Or you can just follow this link: http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/register.php

Once you've registered a user account, you can click on the "Submit a Bike" link in the LOGIN box, or in the SUBMIT A BIKE box on the right side of every Bikes page.

The site will automatically resize your photos, but please try to resize them to a reasonable size before uploading (1024px x 768px at 60-70% jpg compression is perfect). also 72 dpi or so.

We strongly suggest the first picture be a side shot of the complete bike, Drive side os sprocket showing. Other 3 pics can be whatever details from the bike.
http://bmxmuseum.com/image/dsc_06661_lg.jpg

Once you've submitted a bike, you can list all your bikes with the "My Bikes" link in the LOGIN box. Each bike will have an EDIT BIKE button if you are logged in, which will allow you to fix errors, add to the description, or update the photos. Also please check that your bike is not "Pending" due to a needs work status.

Overall, thanks for sharing your bike with us!

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

to answer an earlier question about submiting a bike, it takes a little while for it to show up after submiting it.  Gary has to ok the bike and then send it through.  Gary is a busy guy and does more in life than this web site, so it sometimes takes a couple days.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

try using a different web browser, that sometimes works for me when something isn't quite right.

Firefox, http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

or
Chrome https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

Seem to work good.. Exploder or Explorer has problems sometimes..

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

Think it would be better to set the museum so we can post our own bikes. I had one posted in the museum it showed up for a few days and then was gone..

Would be good, but some people would post Porn or Spam.. so we cannot. GAry

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

I posted a 1980 Robinson to the museum and it looked like the submission was okay (although my pics were slightly larger than 150k).  However I don't see any "pending" notifications in my profile, or anywhere that I can see the post was at all successful.  Is this normal and should I resubmit?

UPDATE: I resubmitted and I still see nothing in the profile, so I guess that's normal.  I will wait for the kind admins to do their thing.  Sorry for the duplicate submission...

UPDATE2: After resubmitting both my posts showed.  I deleted the dupe.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

How do we submit a bike if the manufacturer is not listed?

mm, just add a note, and some info about the company, we can add the company as we add the bike, so call it any brand close when submitting, and we will fix/add..GAry

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

back in the 80s there was a couple bikes out there that were a promotional thing, generic bikes with 7up stickers and pads on it.  The bikes are made in China, mass produced and i believe ESPN is putting them out to the major chains to be sold as x games bikes, skateboards, pads, helmets and ramps.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

I didn’t assume anything....NO ONE....NO ONE told me anything! I can send you a screen shot of my messages and I don’t have one from you. Even though I have sent MANY polite e-mails requesting and almost begging for HELP. Did you just ignore those? I don’t think the world is out to get me, I think you are or your head is so big that you simply just don’t care to respond to peons like me...I've seen your commentary on other posts to others who voice their issues and I see a pattern. There is one in every crowd… "why you didn’t submit better pics is beyond me" Well whats beyond me is that you probably DO know how SNOTY that sounds and just don’t care. Sounds like you may suffer from tiny penis syndrome? I don’t know for sure, I mean I haven’t heard anything...Im just saying that is  the appearance you give with that kind of correspondence. Knock people down so you feel bigger. What a shame. The deal is, I didn’t realize the pics were bad...especially since I took them with a 10megapixel camera and they look good on my computer. I may have done something wrong but I thought I followed the post instructions on the site to submit them. I see bikes posted without pics and see some that are worse than mine. I think YOU need better communication skills and...problem solved. Like, "Dear TFF, Your pics suck, your bike has been moved to the needs work section, here is the link, fix it and we will get it posted back on the museum." Would that be too hard? Am I off base? All I knew was I submitted it 20 times and it was only up for about 15hrs TOTAL after GAry approved it two times with NOTES!!! I don’t stay parked on the site so I had no idea that the post was moved, especially when I had emails with GAry and he didn’t say a thing or even suggest that it may have been moved to the "needs work".  Also, I don’t even know where the “Needs Work† section is. I just now went to find it, and couldn’t. But I am probably way too stupid to find it and need your supreme guidance…I would ask for it if I thought you would respond. And please explain why in my profile it says 0 bikes if its posted somewhere. All I could conclude was that it was deleted. No bikes found, 0 bikes in the museum, no replies to pleas for help, Gary didn’t know so he couldn’t tell me but I was magically suppose to know….but again Im sure it was me, my fault, my bad, sorry for taking up your valuable x-box or whatever time.  I will apologize now for this e-mail cause I know it is a rant and some parts are not very nice, but I hope people can understand where I am coming from and my frustration. I don’t mean you Hellmutt, as understanding seems way out of your realm, I mean everyone else. Since this site is suppose to be for us and not just for the Mods & Admin. As always, Love the site...not too sure about the communication skills or the ego's of those moderating it...Hellmutt...LOL…how appropriate.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

Hellmut, you should read all of my post, if for nothing less than the entertainment value, I thought it was quite funny. ï Š Well, It seems that there is an issue with someone not understanding the situation. And I will concede that it may be both parties. Your right, I never sent you a PM cause I didn’t know you were 'the man'. Also, I need to point out that I did not know the pics were the issue until GAry told me just a couple of days ago. I’ve been trying to get the bike up for over a month. So quit saying that I knew…I didn’t and that’s a copout. If I did I would have changed it, but Im sure that’s “beyond you†. I did send several e-mails to the 'contact' with no reply still to this date. Isn’t it 'your' site to manage? Shouldn’t someone reply to the messages sent in the contact box? Isn’t that what its for? Wouldn’t someone know there is a glitch or did it sound like this in your brain? "Hey this a-hole the frog whatever has submitted his bike 20 times! Well, G, I wonder why he is doing that? Im Hellmutt so I just ASSUME that this guy is an idiot since he isn’t me." Not that there may be an issue with this wonderful technology. Not hey, maybe I should send this guy a PM and ask whats up. That’s the bigger issue here, its your mind set. My previous post wasn’t about the bike….it was about you and how you deal with situations…like a rude monkey fart. When someone spends 5 min. several times posting a bike or sending an email asking for help with no one contacting you back you get a little frustrated and you may start to assume that someone is “out to get you†. Then with the supreme being vibe you have going on just accentuates it. But let me be clear, I never thought anyone was “out to get me†. I just assumed people were ignoring me for unknown reasons, and I feel, rightfully so. Post bike, it never appears, post bike again and again..nada. Send e-mails – no response. Send PM to GAry, Gary post bike and message, but the bike still APPEARS to be deleted.. What the hell did you want me to think…what would you think? I’ll tell you what it “looks† like you think from my perspective and I believe many others perspective, all these people complaining about their posts are a bunch of idiots! Im sure some are, and Im sure you have frustration with that, but you, supposedly being the “leader† or Admin or whatever should know how to deal with us “morons† in a more tactful manner. That’s what a leader does. If I wouldn’t have ever posted the first time to this thread I may still not know what is going on, would you still see the same bike with the same pics and keep doing the same thing? Maybe I don’t know how the process works, and maybe I am still making assumptions that I shouldn’t. But when you’re a mushroom what else is there to do but assume? All this leads me to making a suggestion. Don’t assume we are all idiots, communicate and you may find that there is an issue that you or us did not foresee, then we can fix it and make your life a lil’ easier and with much less drama. As always, Love the site! Regardless of everything else you guys do do a hell of a job. Ride hard and have fun.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

We have enough bikes spreading misinformation that need weeding out of the museum as is.  Do not submit unresearched bikes, I thought that was clear to everyone?

I just like cool old bikes, not all can be thoroughly researched (like the FMSA). No biggie.

Re: How To Submit a Bike To The Museum

Well I do apologize, but that's the best camera I have access to at the present time.  It's a 1.3 Megapixel camera phone so it's not exactly terrible.  Sorry they aren't super high res and done with a digital SLR, but it's a picture of a bicycle, not a classic muscle car that I'm trying to sell with photos that highlight the scratch free paint.  This bike is raced on every weekend.

Also, I didn't read anything pertaining to rules about the title...  I figured I was already putting the brand of bicycle in the drop down along with all the other information describing the bike.

I'm assuming someone has deleted them then.  Because I know for a fact that I submitted them.  I've even tried several different titles ranging from "Clayborn Pro XL" to "Custom Built Clayborn Race Bike" to just "My Clayborn"...  I don't know what else to put there.

that happened to mee too 84 laserlite.. i chose a different picture and it worked for me.. for some reason it wouldn't let me post 1 of the pictures i had.. i chose another .. take pictures on the lowest resolution.. if it is a resolution problem a moderator should let people know in the "how to post photo area" that this is a problem.. try a different picture, i bet it works.. it did for me

Sorry i stand corrected... they do say the size of the photo you should post.. my bad..so check your camera for res size..  The site will automatically resize your photos, but please try to resize them to a reasonable size before uploading (1024px x 768px at 60-70% jpg compression is perfect).
