1981 Mongoose Motomag

Early nickel Mongoose

I finally managed to get hold of a nickel plated Mongoose from 1981 which would have been the same frame I raced back in the day. I had to ship from the states. Frame from Wisconsin and the forks from Pennsylvania. Both in similar condition as you can see from last picture. A lot of vinegar, wet and dry and metal polish later and you see the finished result which I am really pleased with. Still looking for a Mongoose pad set but will now turn my attention to a Team Mongoose frame which needs a new blue candy coat. Parts list... Win pro bars, ame tri grips, dia-compe tech 77 brake levers, dia compe bull dog callipers, elina ultra lite seat & post, odyssey seat clamp, GT power series one piece crank, odyssey pedals, tioga sealed bottom bracket, bear trap 2 headset, izumi chain, 20" skyway tuff wheels with kenda whitewall tyres, repro decals from BMX Products USA, dice dust caps and cable crimps and protective clear frame stickers.  Now sold.

Re: 1981 Mongoose Motomag

Nice! Big differance between the 1st 3 pics and the last pic of the frame.

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets).
Thanks ;)
I'm also johnng23604 at "Retro-goose", "VintageBMX" & "RADbmx"

Re: 1981 Mongoose Motomag

I commented on your first restoration project (Aero) that I was looking forward to your next and you certainly have not disappointed me!  As John said in the previous post the and after shots are amazing!  Clearly a lot of elbow grease but definitely well worth it! It shows just how hardy the nickel plated finish is after all these years! Nice touches to with the layback and whitewalls.  Top Notch!!
