1981 DG 26
1981 DG 26
RARE 26 DG LOOPTAIL CRUISER
This was the biggest trade I have done so far. The National Pro trade was close. I traded my Profile 24 Cruiser frame and fork, Profile padset, Thruster Vanishing Point frame and a few small misc. items. I wanted this bad! When it arrived the previous owner had stripped it down to look for damage and the original Candy red paint was showing. The forks were worhless so I had a set of mid 80's GT forks to use until I find a set of DG forks for it(ya right!). I sent the f/f and first gen non knurled GT Cruiser bars to Chip at C4Labs. He has powdered 4 other bikes for me and does a fantastic job. He called me to tell me he has matched the original color. He has never seen a DG 26 Looptail Cruiser. The DG arrived about a week later and I couldn't wait to start building it up. Once again Chip did a fantastic job. I actually found a set of DG forks. Parts are as follows:1981 DG 26 Cruiser frame, first gen GT Cruiser bars, AME grips, rare inverted Pro neck, NOS Tange MX-3 headset, NOS red Tange headset lock, NOS red SST dirtskirt, NOS black Elina lightning bolt seat, NOS Race Inc seatpost, NOS gold Dia Compe hinged seatpost clamp, NOS chrome Dia Compe MX 1000 rear brake with Dia Compe Tech III lever, NOS chrome Dia Compe cable clamps, Profile 3rd gen 181 cranks with Profile spider and red anodised Sugino 39 tooth chainring, Suntour XC II pedals, gold Araya 7x hoops with original gold anodized hubs, The tires are IRC Racer X1. I used one of the extra spoke nipples for a cable end, works great! I have been searching for DG gusset stickers but this style is very hard to find. I may have it painted with DG yellow paint to match the seat tube stickers. This is the only DG 26" Looptail Cruiser in the Museum!
Always looking for Cook Bros. parts or 26" f/f.
Will not sell to bennyt4130!!

This bike has some definite cool factor to it! Your bikes are always top notch.

Sweet and super clean even the wheels set... All your cruisers look nice not just this one. A collection that needs to be showed...

Very sweet ride!! New member to the museum. I just bought this one from a good friend in my neighborhood. The only thing worth keeping is obviously the frame but its a 26" I think exactly the same as yours!
I am breaking it down and will post the updates.
Ride on!
ride your BIKE!!
