2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2

(AKA The UB2)

Mike Martin designed the2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2 (AKA The UB2). cThe bike in the photos weighs in at 21.9 lbs. and the frame weight is 3.2 lbs. The geometry is the same as the Ultra Box XL which has a 21” top tube, 74 degree head angle and 14" min. chainstay length. info found at fatbmx.com
These photos and others have been circulating around the web for a couple days now.  This is GT's new prototype Carbon fiber frame.  Joey Bradford has been testing it for awhile now and it seems to be holding up.  Word has it that it might possibly be on the market in "08".  Only time will time.
April 2014 update..I have this frameset on the way to me, or one much like it.  direct from MArtin himself..Stoked..GAry

Re: 2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2

What's the point of that frame. The bike still weighs the same as a quality built up aluminum frame race bike but costs 4-5 times as much. I don't get it!

Yeah bishes..... You can touch my carbon fiber!

Re: 2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2

They will be selling the frameset only for 2008 (little over a grand) but are looking into a full production bike for 2009. Lets hope the price drops a little with increased production.

It is a little heavy for full carbon, but I'd like to ride one and see what the difference is in feel and ride handling characteristics. Carbon tends to absorb more shock and vibration than aluminum, giving a "softer", smoother ride. /shrug

Re: 2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2

this is the bike that mike day is testing for GT(January 2008,bmx plus!) i agree that the frame is a little heavy for carbon fiber and as a complete bike, my bike has no carbon fiber and weighs 19.9 pounds for only $1700 dollars (canadain) complete. just saying it's still a sweet bike that i would like to get a chance to ride, just one good example of where the technology in bmx is going.http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/intense_cycles/7451

just to give you a little info. The owner of this site Gary Sansom lists bikes under the guest name. It clearly states that these pics have been floating around the web. It DOES NOT state he owns it.

How long do you think you'll last on this web site calling the owner a dumbazz????? I don't care where you work.

Re: 2008 GT Power Series Ultra Box 2

i think this bike is super sweet looking, but if it is the same weight as the other bikes what is the point of spending so much money, its not like gt has the good name where people have to have because it says gt,  i think it is a waste of money,  but still looks cool smile

I'm sure it's light and I'm sure it's fast...buts that's one ridiculous looking bike.
