Re: chicago today pictures.

I always thought the Chicago area got as much snow as we did. I live about 25 miles north of Boston, right on the NH border. We typically get twice as much snow as Boston. We've had a couple of 20+ inch storms this winter and maybe 5-6 storms over a foot. Then I have to hear Dyno Mike, and his panic over the South Shore's 8" of slush. tongue

I live in Minnesota. I know what you guys are going through. Thats nearly every winter here, but those pics really say it all.

Side note, Im leaving tomorrow at 6pm to head to Chicago for a concert. The little pub its at is called Schubas. I hope that the roads will let me make it into the city. Its roughly a 7 hour drive for me to get there. Think Ill be ok? neutral

If you are going to be parking around Schubas you're going to have big trouble. First off, most side streets around there are permit parking. Second, they have not plowed the side streets yet. You probably will not find any open spots. Parking SUCKS even in good weather around that area. I lived in that neighborhood for about 5 years and let me repeat myself...PARKING SUCKS in that area!!! I would park somewhere out of the city then take a cab or public trans.

I should have checked back before I left. We got there, and just like you said, we LITERALLY drove around for over 2 hours looking to park. All the parking garages were 2-4 hours max - we needed overnight. The hotel we stayed at did not provide parking as it was smack dab in the middle of everything. We ended up paying $35 for an overnight spot at the hospital parking lot then WALKED 2.5 miles in all that snow with bags and a lap top to the hotel. I wore some Pumas (very stupid of me) and had wet feet for the whole 2 days we were here. The concert was great, but all that surrounded it SUCKED BALLS!

Chicago, I feel for you

Re: chicago today pictures.

Man, I feel for YOU!  How can you be from MinneSNOWta and not be prepared for the worst?! lol

This should give you an idea of how my snow day went.  Although I didn't have to work that day, I had to WORK that day...

This car won't see any action any time soon...

Seriously?!
http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab123/soulman73/Snow2011005.jpg

The little snowblower that could...
http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab123/soulman73/Snow2011007.jpg

That snowblower got the whole job done, but it wasn't easy.  By the time I had the driveway cleared, I felt like I had been bench pressing 185 for 5 hours straight.

Re: chicago today pictures.

But theres a place to put it all in MinneSNOWta! tongue There isnt anywhere to put it in downtown Chicago! I saw cars just buried with about 2-3 ft on each side of it to put anything. The road crews were literally loading it up into trucks and hauling it away. I had never seen that before. Here they just plow and are done. If it snows again, they plow again and will plow closer and on top of the grass if they have to. In the Spring when it all melts the grass is rolled up and they plant sod on top of the exposed dirt

Re: chicago today pictures.

I'm from the Hamlin Pk area. Rode my Patterson from Hamlin Pk. to Niles everyday in winter. Funny what a girlfriend will make a young man do. Some times Belmont Av, sometimes Addison to Milwaukee Av, other times what ever way I took to Milwaukee Av. Everyday in winter, circa 85ish. Used to stop at Super Dogs all the time. Also rode to Schaumberg all the time too, to go to Schaumberg Schwinn.

What good is a BMX bike if it sits on the shelf? Ride that thang.......Yep that's right, my seat is from an old Free Spirt, and my chain is by Bell.
