Re: Obscure/rare Midschool Brands thread

My 93 GT Cruiser is still in my top 3 bikes I have ever owned..And I have had more than a few "Nice" ones. May not make me sound to "Alternative" , but it was a great F'n bike.

If something I say offends you I would like to sincerely appologize, but please realize I am a complete stranger to 99.9% of you and as such should hold no real power over your emotions. Have a great day ladies and gents and try not to forget to keep life in perspective  :^P

WTF!!? Seriously? GT didn't command a lot of respect in the nineties!!!? You know absolutely nothing about mid-school racing!

yea gt was always on top in the 90's

well in my hood in the 90's the hot stuff in street was S&M, Kink and Standard. as for at the track it was  Auburn ,Kastan or Cannondale that was most lined up on the gate.
as for flatland /freestyle Standard, KHE, 91/92 Haro masters

Super late to the party, but GT had a MASSIVE race team in the 90s.  I'll just name some of the pros who rode for GT during that period:
Gary Ellis
Danny Nelson
Greg Romero
Dale Holmes
Thomas Allier
Andy Contes
In Hee Lee

The first 5 on this list each had at least one #1 pro plate of some sort during the mid school era, with 4 out of those five riders having earned them while riding pro for GT.  No other team comes close.  They were like the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers of BMX.

Re: Obscure/rare Midschool Brands thread

proto type frame and fork, no head tube gusset, and no peg holes on fork!

94 soul train local rider from maryland
History
I started Soul Bikes in 1993 when I was in High School. I started the company because I
kept breaking the street riding frame sets that were offered by the large bike companies at the
time.
Soul Bikes was one of the first rider-owned companies of the time.
The first Soul Train prototype was made by Fabweld in Florida.
Mike Forney test the Soul Train Prototype. I believe it debuted at on of the street contest in
the fall of 1993 held in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
The original Soul Train prototype was sent back to Fabweld to help set up the jigs for the first
batch of frames and forks.
The large diameter peg mount gussets were added to the forks for the first production run. I
believe Soul Bikes was the first manufacturer to use the large diameter style peg mount
gussets.
In 1994 the first batch of Soul Train frame/fork sets was produced.
The first batch of Soul Trains consisted of 100 frame/fork sets. The first batch of frames were
available in Red, Green or Chrome. The frames were available with 990 brake mounts,
cantilever brake mounts or without U-brake mounts. A small number of frames/forks were
available unfinished (raw chromoly).
One frame was made in the first batch that did not feature a head tube gusset. This frame was
intended to be used as a dirt jumping prototype. This is the red frame that is pictured along
with the fork without gussets.
The frame/fork sets were distributed in the USA by Chuck’s Bike Shop in Linthicum, MD.
The frame/fork sets were also sent to China, Europe, and South America for limited
distribution.
The second batch of Soul Trains consisted of 100 to 150 frame/fork sets. The second batch
of frames were available in Red, Black or Chrome with 990 or Cantilever brake mounts. The
forks were also available with 990 or Cantilever brake mounts. The second batch featured a
thicker wall bottom bracket.
The light green prototype was constructed as the test bed for the second generation Soul
Train. The prototype frame was designed and hand constructed by Bruni Bikes in Baltimore,
MD (http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2005-0 … nibicycles
)
The second generation Soul Train didn’t make it to production because I went off to college
and no longer had time to run and grow the company.
The last remaining frames and forks have been sitting in their original boxes in my garage since
1995/1996 when I went away to college and no longer had time to run/grow the company

WTF!!? Seriously? GT didn't command a lot of respect in the nineties!!!? You know absolutely nothing about mid-school racing!

yea gt was always on top in the 90's

Super late to the party, but GT had a MASSIVE race team in the 90s.  I'll just name some of the pros who rode for GT during that period:
Gary Ellis
Danny Nelson
Greg Romero
Dale Holmes
Thomas Allier
Andy Contes
In Hee Lee

The first 5 on this list each had at least one #1 pro plate of some sort during the mid school era, with 4 out of those five riders having earned them while riding pro for GT.  No other team comes close.  They were like the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers of BMX.

Oops -- almost forgot Mike King and Jamie Lilly!
