Re: What was your first "score"?

My first score was this 76 goose with non drilled early redline forks. Found it under a pile of tires and junk.

Re: What was your first "score"?

First score was a pair of frames I pulled from a neighbor's trash when I was about 11 years old.  An 84 DB Viper in perfect shape and a Huffy Pro Lightning (not sure of the year) stripped of decals but otherwise solid. I wish I had photos of either bike, but never took any - and they are both long long long gone by now. Gave the DB frame to a pal shortly after snagging it, and built up the Pro Lighting with scraps from my first BMX which was a Columbia with Lester Mags.

Re: What was your first "score"?

A guy named Phil had his Schwinn predator stolen in Phoenix Az sometime in the 80's. As a result, he got a brand new 1989 predator flatland pro to take to college after graduating high school. He ended up going to school out of state and the bike never made the trip to Florida to see him. Here is where I come in. Last year he Came home to visit his mom and found the bike sitting in the shed out back where it had been undisturbed for nearly 20 years. I was in Phoenix racing when I saw the CL ad he posted for the bike. $100! i JUMPED ON IT. The only non OG thing on it are the seat post, rotor, and it is missing a YO! crank decal. Phil told me he got it from the LBS like that with the parts swapped so maybe they had been broken in transit to the store and replaced. either way I got my first 80's bike and love the hell out of it.

Re: What was your first "score"?

About 8 years ago, I found a pile of bike stuff curbside down the street from my house:

I came home with 2 early 90's Diamondback Vipers (one a f/f with cranks, the other complete), a late 80's Schwinn, several Walgeese, 2 complete Pacifics, lots of parts, and two GTs:

1999 GT Fueler

1999 GT Bump

Also, I'm surprised that nobody has answered the First Score question with "Your mom!"...

Re: What was your first "score"?

my first score was a  blue 1987 gt pro freestyle tour team model, with haro kneesavers, araya 48's powerseries cranks, ready to ride! this was in 1990, back then a 3 yr old bike seemed as old as a 20 yr.old does now. I got it for about 150 USD, and rode the hell out of it, got it stolen, recovered it, sold the frame to fred in NY and kept the cranks and bars for almost 15 years.I must have pics somewhere...that was the bike that got me into collecting bikes, about that time, I had a 1990 gt pfttm, and a 3 yr.old model was actually ludicrous, my friends thought I was crazy, all but one, who saw what I saw in it. I knew the newer gt would never be like the real pft, and time has given me the thumbs up.

I sold one of my first scores to you, that 83 Nova i listed above.
Sure regret it, but there is plenty of fish in the sea.

You guys have had some incredible finds.
That, and riding them is what makes this all such fun. big_smile

Re: What was your first "score"?

Got this for ten bucks at a yard sale, 1985 Schwinn Predator Street Wise complete survivor. It was in rough shape, restored it and sold it to a good friends son. I kept one of the DC 901 brake sets for a different project. http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt190/rattattuey/1985%20Schwinn%20Predator%20Street%20Wise/IMG_0054.jpg

Re: What was your first "score"?

My first score was a 1988 free agent pro with early s&m forks, chrome araya 7x's with alloy hutch hubs, dk stem, gt epoch head set, redline 401 (non pinch!) cranks. All for $150. That was a good start I thought. Then came my 1989 white bear pro (t-bone) f&f, I got that for free!

Re: What was your first "score"?

The DG (in my bikes) It was a complete survivor! DG stem and all. I ended up parting it out and now need half the parts. But all the money went to a good cause. The most beautiful girl in the world. The bikes gone, the girls gone, bangs head against keyboard.

Re: What was your first "score"?

First Score was this Pre Fuji PK Ripper I got for my youngest to start racing in 2009.  It was loaded with Awesome parts, Crupi, Cooks Cranks, DK, Answer parts.  It had been on the local online sales source in Utah for weeks, funny thing is this site gets scowered daily for deals.  I was hooked after this deal.
