Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

I have used this place and they do a GREAT job and are by far the least expensive around Oregon that I could find.

Star Bright Chrome Plating
13929 Fir Street #A
Oregon City, OR 97045

503-657-0533
or
877-chromeit       ask for Janet

wwwstarbrightchromeplating.com

Frames - $170
Forks - $70
3-piece Cranks - $70
Cruiser frames are more expensive - $225

Turn-a-round times are usually 3-4 weeks from what I have experienced. Seems like they are always busy.

hmmm,
maybe we can do a "bmxmuseum batch"??
I know that you can sometimes get a better price on a few frames at one time.

Re: Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

I called this place today Jason, Janet wasn't there so I spoke with Vickie.  They wanted "minimum"  $415.00 to Chrome a set of 20" x 1.75" Arayas.  I said I wouldn't do that.  I guess I'll keep shopping around.

Could you tell me where you just got that quote from? I'd pay that. Not $415 though. Thanks!

Hey Steve,
You better call tracy about your rims.  When I called him back to ask if he was aware that my rims were aluminum, he said no, and he does NOT plate aluminum.  Just thought I would throw that out to you.  Take care Steve, & talk to you later.

For U "So.Cal" guys/gals  El Monte Plating Co. is the place to be. I was told $100 for Powder Coating, Chroming, or Nickel plating for frame & fork.

Re: Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

So if I get my frame re-chromed, does it need to be polished somewhere else or does the chomer place do it?

Re: Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

After it's chromed, who ever the company is that chromed it will polish it (at least all the ones I contacted do, and I contacted a lot of them). If you need it worked on before you get it chromed, now that's a another story, some will do prep work for a fee, and some will have it fixed in the price, and some do no prep work at all besides the original treatments. The better shape the part is in under the chrome, the better the chrome is gonna come out looking.  Good luck with what ever you do. If your thinking of chroming aluminum rims, forget it, it's so expensive to chrome plate aluminum that it will cost less or about the same to buy new ones. That's even if you can find someone to chrome plate aluminum. Anything steel is pretty straight forward I guess. I hope this helps.

There is a place in Ohio that does plating and prep work.  I'll find the name, and post it for you tomorrow. I'm sure I still have it around here somewhere.

Re: Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

Here is an email that I just received from Custom Chrome Plating in Ohio

"Steve, some rough approximate prices for your bike parts.
these prices are to totally strip, polish and re-plate all pcs.
frame -- $400.00
fork -- $80.00
crank arms -- $70.00 set
sprocket -- $70.00
handle bar riser -- $75.00 unit
these are rough prices until we see the actual parts.
turn around would be approx. 8 weeks"

Mind you that these quotes are for cruiser frame and fork. I have heard they do excellent work and I will probably have them do my Redline 401 Flight crank arms.

Re: Chroming, Nickel, etc.. OREGON

I just dropped my Redline 401 crank arms off today at Custom Chrome Plating in Ohio. Turn around time is about a week and will cost about $70. I wish they weren't so expensive because I would like to have my frame and fork done by them. They are only 30 minutes away from where I live. I am waiting for a reply from Star Bright to see what kind of pricing they quote me to have the frame and fork done. Damn am I dropping some cash into a Sunday Rider smile It's all good though....
