Re: Show me your CYCLECRAFT!!!!

Dudes,
This is a sincere request not to refinish any CC's that have factory finishes on them.  Almost all painted Cycle-Crafts were custom painted.  It's unusual that you'll find 2 Cycle-crafts with the exact same finish.  Early on, custom 2-tones were the norm, but later on rider Brian Foster hand painted many CC's himself (he's responsible for the splash paint jobs.  If you take those paint jobs into consideration (hand painted splash) each and every one was unique -- just like a fingerprint.

For many CC's, the paint job is their identity.  Once that paint job is removed, it's identity is also removed.

Yes, I'm a big supporter of factory finish preservation on any bike, but for the reasons above, I think it's even more important that this type of preservation be considered for CC frame sets.

Ok -- to add to the thread, here's my 85 Pro
http://bmxsociety.com/uploads/monthly_08_2009/post-2943-1251250566_thumb.jpg

Note the decals.  The Splash style decals came out in later 86 (to the best of my knowledge).  84's, 85's, and possibly early 86's had the decals like these (with the slashes in front). Also note the head tube decal with the big "CC" in the middle.  These were also earlier.  They later changed to the diagonal "Cycle Craft" script.  That maybe have been around the same time they switched to the splash style, but I'm not certain (still digging around for that info).

Great thread.

Re: Show me your CYCLECRAFT!!!!

Just ordered some of the new fredz cruiser bars from cyclecraft. They are making these bars from the original jig. I asked if they had any old school fredz decals and he said he would include one with the bars. He also said they still have two of the black chromoly prototype 20" xl frames left for sale if anyone wants one.

That's weird because their was a ton of them around in my area back in the day..

there was a ton of them because Bikes N More used to sell them. Most of their huge Coca Cola co sponsored team was on them from what I remember

Re: Show me your CYCLECRAFT!!!!

I think I need to jump on the Cycle Craft bandwagon. All of these bikes are pretty awesome. I've seen Chucks bikes personally and they are all awesome. big_smile

Re: Show me your CYCLECRAFT!!!!

I hear ya about catching that bandwagon. Great looking bikes for sure. I need to do some more research on the Cycle Craft brand before jumping in, but this thread sure has my wheels turning.

Bikes n more (which is now bike zone) was in my hometown of Yarmouth, MA. I bought my very first bmx bike from Ken and pretty much every bike since. There was a huge bmx scene around here back then because of this shop being here and the cape cod bmx track at Otis. A couple of friends of mine raced for Ken and coca cola, Brookie Morrison was one of them. His father was an awesome painter and painted alot of the bikes for the team. Brooke is a member on here so maybe he will chime in on the subject..

Re: Show me your CYCLECRAFT!!!!

Here's my baby....

I bought the frame and fork in 86-87 along with the wheels, cranks, stem, and brakes.  Sometime in 92 I parted out most of my bike to several different people in my town.  Last year I discovered that most of the part made their way back to one person, who happened to be the cousin of one of my best friends.  Long story short I was able to buy it back from him (cheap) and just bought the dominator seat, GT bars.  I'm gonna start restoring her this winter.  The only thing I'm missing to make her exaclty the way I built her in 87 is Patterson Pro Bars.  I can't believe how much I've missed this bike.
