Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
I've been meaning to get a new pair of Vans.Lucky for me there is a Vans store in the shopping mall right behind the apartments that I live at.I have some old red canvas ones that I've had for years. My all time favorite Vans were either my black old school high tops,or the first pair that I had,red and white checkered slip ons with blue side panels .

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
No offence about the new vans. But the old one's rocked. I liked the vans with the checkered look, my buddy had a pair with the american flag on them. the old one's with the laces and these designs were killer looking. I wished they went retro with these. I had a few pairs in 1987. I wished I didn't huck them...

Been wearing vans since 1980 and the best of late were the Geoff Rowley XL2 & 3's. I was kind of bummed when the changed them up this time around, so I'm back to the Classic Old Skool.

I never even started wearing VANS until a couple years ago. They never had enough support for me to skateboard in...but they are just right for BMX!

Its my fault, always my fault, even when someone else is the issue its my fault. If I type something its an attack, and I am always in the wrong, no matter the truth or the facts, if I am posting I must be starting something and I am for sure in the wrong.

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
Love em! I have been wearin them since the late 70's. My youngest loves them too. The vans website is awesome so many styles. Not too fond of the new sole compound though.

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
Vans rule.
After racing at the '87 World Champs in Orlando (my first overseas trip...), a bunch of us Kiwi's stayed in LA for a few days.
We went to the Vans factory, where were given a guided tour. We finished the tour in the '2nds' room... between the 6 of us we went back to NZ with about 50 pair of Vans! Being '2nds' (not that you could really tell what was 'wrong' with them), they were bloody cheap - about US$10/pair.
At the time, IF you could find them in NZ, they sold for about US$75!
Unfortunately, mine are long gone. I still use the modern ones, not quite as good as the hand built models we had in the '80s, but still very cool.

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
Awesome response guys! For those of you who don't know you can totally get retro Vans these days. You just have to look online. I didn't own any in the early 80's but I would have to think that even if they are not made in the USA (I don't think they make sneakers in this country anymore anyway) They are still pretty well constructed sneakers.
Here is the lineup for my daily kicks...

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
Bought my first pair in 20 years about 2 month ago. I wear them every chance I get. Got the Old Skool black/pewter.
My wife hates them. Even more reason to wear.

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
Where I grew up in the 80s there was no place to buy Vans. They were in the BMX magazines, but no money. Got my first pair on a trip to Las Vegas last November, a black pair of Dustin Dollin no skool. I love them and they stick to the set screws I put on my plastic Animal Hamilton pedals. Would love to get another pair to wear as beaters. Love Vans and the Vans store.

Re: VANS thread. Who else loves them?
anyone remember the knock-offs called "world cups"? i think that was what they called them.
that's what we bought back in the 80's since vans were no where to be found locally.

I forgot all about those until you mentioned them. Looking back, I guess that they were knockoffs, just never thought of them that way back in the day. I always thought of it as if you wanted checkered shoes, you got Vans. If you wanted solid white color, you got some World Cups.
World Cup must be gone.... A quick google search only turns up Adidas soccer shoes.
